Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a compassionate, flexible, and student-centered Learning Support Teacher who is passionate about supporting diverse learners in a culturally responsive school environment. The Learning Support Teacher will work collaboratively with the Inclusive Education Lead, classroom teachers, literacy and numeracy support staff, support staff, students, and families to provide targeted academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support for students with diverse learning needs.


This is a classroom-based position where the teacher will operate a dedicated resource room to support students individually and in small groups. The Learning Support Teacher will support students who may require academic interventions, literacy and numeracy support, behavior support, modified programming, or alternative learning environments outside of the traditional classroom setting.


The successful candidate will work closely with classroom teachers and intervention staff to adapt, modify, and differentiate instructional materials and learning experiences to ensure all students can access the curriculum and experience success.This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Inclusive Education Lead of Elsie Fabian School.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide direct instructional support to students individually and in small group settings within the resource room environment
  • Support students with diverse academic, literacy, numeracy, behavioral, social-emotional, and learning needs
  • Assist students who may struggle to learn successfully in a traditional classroom environment
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, literacy and numeracy support staff, and the Inclusive Education Lead to support student learning and achievement
  • Work alongside literacy and numeracy intervention staff to implement targeted academic support strategies for students requiring additional assistance
  • Support the development and implementation of differentiated literacy and numeracy programming based on student needs
  • Adapt, modify, and differentiate learning materials and classroom instruction to improve student access and success
  • Implement accommodations, modifications, and intervention strategies to support student success
  • Support the development of student learning skills, self-regulation, organization, and positive behaviors
  • Monitor student progress and communicate observations with the Inclusive Education Lead and classroom teachers
  • Support classroom teachers with behavior strategies and intervention approaches when needed
  • Create engaging and supportive learning opportunities tailored to individual student needs
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student support and progress
  • Build positive and respectful relationships with students, families, and staff
  • Participate in school-based meetings, collaborative planning, and professional learning opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with literacy and numeracy support staff, counsellors, educational assistants, Elders, and outside service providers to provide holistic student support
  • Foster an inclusive, safe, and culturally responsive learning environment for all students


KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum Bachelor of Education
  • Alberta Teacher Certification
  • Formal Training or experience in Inclusive Education, Special Education, Literacy Intervention, Numeracy Intervention, or Behaviour Support considered an asset
  • Experience supporting students with diverse learning and behavioral needs
  • Strong understanding of differentiated instruction, accommodations, interventions, and inclusive practices
  • Knowledge of literacy and numeracy intervention strategies considered an asset
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families
  • Strong classroom management and student support skills
  • Experience working collaboratively as part of a team
  • Experience working in a First Nations community, including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values, is considered an asset
  • Ability to speak, read, and write Cree and/or Dene is considered an asset
  • Clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector required
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and Clean Driver's Abstract required
  • Successful candidate will be required to live in (or relocate to) Fort McMurray, Alberta
