Job Summary
The Retention Coordinator assists with the promotion, facilitation, and management of day-to-day operations and services of the Success & Retention area including retention activities and programs. Supports various programs and activities related to the promotion of student success and academic persistence. Works closely with the Director of Retention/Early Alert to assist with the development and implementation of co-curricular academic activities and programs, retention and outreach initiatives, and student learning communities. Performs general student outreach and assists in the supervision of student support staff. The Retention Coordinator reports to the Director of Retention/Early Alert.
Job Duties:
  • Co-supervises, trains, and recruits student support staff.
  • Assists with management of the Early Alert System (Starfish), including assisting with training and supporting faculty and staff across the institution.
  • Supports Early Alert activities and interventions at BCTC, including individual outreach and large-scale call and text campaigns.
  • Assists the Director of Retention/Early Alert with the development and facilitation of BCTC Student Learning Communities, including Jumpstarts and Success Academies.
  • Facilitates, promotes, and supports retention and engagement initiatives related to the promotion of student success and academic persistence, including marketing, outreach, and student recruitment.
  • Assists Director of Retention/Early Alert with data collection and analysis to assess trends and new initiatives related to retention and student success.
  • Supports promotion and marketing of BCTC Success & Retention activities and programming during college resource fairs, student events, and other area-related activities (i.e. tabling).
  • Actively supports the mission of a comprehensive community and technical college and student success and completes duties and responsibilities in compliance with college standards and policies.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree and two (2) years related experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrates strong self-motivation, organization, and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with best practices in student retention and academic success.
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive campus environment that promotes student success for all students.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, communications, or community leadership
  • At least two years of experience in teaching or student support services.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and other relevant software applications.
  • Experience in student outreach, programming, or teaching.
  • Experience supervising student employees strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with student information systems and creative marketing solutions.
