Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Student Success serves as an operational leader for the Student Success team within Enrollment Management and provides oversight for daily coordination, implementation, and assessment of student success initiatives, student support services, and retention-related operations.
At the direction of the Director of Student Success this position provides supervision and leadership to a team of Student Success Specialists while serving as a primary operational liaison between Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, Athletics, Academic Affairs, and other campus partners to ensure students receive coordinated, proactive, and student-centered support throughout their educational journey.
The Assistant Director is responsible for managing day-to-day student success operations, coordinating student intervention efforts, monitoring outreach and engagement initiatives, overseeing student support workflows, and assisting with institutional retention efforts using data, technology platforms, and collaborative strategies.
This position plays a key role in supporting institutional enrollment, persistence, retention, and student success goals while ensuring operational consistency, accountability, and high-quality student service delivery. The Director of Student Success may alter duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Success Operations & Leadership
• Oversee the daily operations of the Student Success area within Enrollment Management.
• Coordinate and manage frontline student support operations and service delivery within the Turley Center.
• Ensure students receive prompt, accurate, and student-centered support related to enrollment, financial aid, student accounts, housing, registration, retention, and student success services.
• Assist in the implementation and execution of institutional retention and persistence initiatives.
• Monitor operational effectiveness and identify opportunities for process improvement and enhanced student support.
• Assist with development and implementation of operational procedures, communication workflows, and student engagement strategies.
• Coordinate student outreach and intervention efforts related to retention, persistence, registration, and student success campaigns.
• Support divisional and institutional enrollment management initiatives as assigned.
• Serve as backup support for safe management and cashiering operations, including opening and closing sessions, balancing daily receipts, and ensuring funds are secured in accordance with university policies and internal controls. Assist in monitoring compliance with cash handling
procedures, maintaining accurate records, and escalating discrepancies as needed.
• Maintain proper documentation of cash transactions and report any discrepancies in accordance with departmental policy.
Supervision & Staff Management• Provide direct supervision, leadership, training, and operational oversight to Student Success Specialists and assigned student employees.
• Coordinate staff schedules, office coverage, and operational workflows to ensure consistent student support and service delivery.
• Conduct onboarding and training for new staff members related to university systems, customer service expectations, operational procedures, and student support protocols.
• Monitor staff performance, productivity, documentation, responsiveness, and adherence to institutional expectations and operational procedures.
• Assist with performance evaluations, coaching, professional development, and corrective action documentation as appropriate.
• Foster a collaborative, student-centered, and solutions-oriented team of culture.
Student Support, Outreach & Intervention
• Provide leadership, coordination, and accountability for Student Success Specialists and support staff in advancing institutional retention and persistence goals.
• Ensure Specialists actively contribute toward divisional and university retention objectives through proactive outreach, student engagement, intervention efforts, and coordinated student support initiatives.
• Collaborate with the Director of Student Success to monitor retention progress, identify barriers impacting persistence, and implement operational strategies that support overall student retention and success.
• Coordinate proactive student outreach efforts related to:
o Registration
o Academic progress
o Early alerts
o Student account concerns
o Financial aid follow-up
o Enrollment persistence
o Retention campaigns
• Assist the Director in managing student intervention strategies for at-risk students through coordinated support efforts and referrals.
• Serve as an escalation point for complex student concerns requiring other coordination or support.
• Coordinate referrals between Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, CARE Team representatives, and other campus resources.
• Assist with orientation, welcome programming, commencement activities, Maroon & White events, and other enrollment and retention-related initiatives.
Technology & Reporting
• Lead with operational oversight and utilization of Navigate360/Slate and other student success technologies, serving as a SuperUser representative for the Enrollment Management Division with operational oversight and utilization of Navigate360/Slate and other student success technologies.
• Monitor and ensure appropriate documentation standards and utilization expectations within Navigate360/Slate.
• Provide regular reports to the Director on efficacy of outreach and campaigns and any other pertinent information related to retention.
• Assist with development and execution of student success campaigns, appointment campaigns, early alerts, and retention initiatives within Navigate360/Slate.
• Utilize institutional data, reporting tools, and student success technologies to monitor outreach effectiveness, identify trends, and support operational decision-making.
• Collaborate with Institutional Research, Information Technology, and campus stakeholders to improve student success reporting and intervention processes.
Minimum Required Education
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Business Administration, Psychology in a related field.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in student services, enrollment management, student success, retention, advising, or related higher education operations.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating student support services and managing operational workflows.
  • Experience supervising staff, student employees, or teams.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience using student information systems, CRM platforms, or student success technologies.
  • Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and make sound operational decisions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Leadership, or related field.
  • Experience utilizing Navigate360, Banner, Slate, TouchNet, or related higher education systems.
  • Experience with student retention initiatives, early alert systems, and student intervention models.
  • Experience working collaboratively across academic and student support units.
