The Division of Student Life at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for the position of Outreach Coordinator at the Student Counseling Center (SCC). The Outreach Coordinator works with the assistant director of the department to develop a strategic outreach plan that incorporates a continuum of mental health promotion, prevention, early intervention, and suicide prevention initiatives. Establish measurable annual goals that identify priority populations, desired outcomes, implementation strategies, and timelines. Coordinate a broad range of outreach activities, including workshops, presentations, awareness campaigns, classroom programs, tabling events, campus-wide initiatives, digital programming, and peer-to-peer educational efforts. Monitor emerging trends in college student mental health, national best practices, and university data to ensure programming remains responsive, inclusive, evidence-informed, culturally relevant, and student-centered. This role includes the responsibility of creating evaluation measures relevant to outreach, identifying data trends, and ensuring that the outreach initiatives remain relevant and impactful to students, faculty and staff.
The Outreach Coordinator is also responsible for the marketing of the Student Counseling Center throughout campus in partnership with Student Life Communications. This role supports the development of marketing initiatives through digital, print, and other means, ensuring that the Student Counseling Center remains front of mind for students as an accessible resource.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree
- Experience:
- One year of experience in project management related to training, outreach, or marketing; One or more years of experience utilizing social media for networking and promotion required.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:ย ย
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to develop campaigns to represent the department's voice consistently across platforms and in person.
- Ability to present to groups ranging from small organizations to large campus audiences
- Knowledge and Skills to create, edit, and deliver content for tabling, social media, and presentations
- Ability to maintain data on quality, content, and effectiveness
- Knowledge of the mental health field through relevant education or work experienceย

- Develop and implement a strategic outreach plan in collaboration with the SCC Assistant Director that incorporates a continuum of mental health promotion, prevention, early intervention, and suicide prevention initiatives

- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with departments across the university, including health and wellness units, student organizations, academic colleges, faculty, staff, and campus partners to expand the reach of mental health education
- Facilitate outreach requests, educational presentations, tabling opportunities, and prevention initiatives that support the diverse needs of the campus community; Supervise, train, and mentor student staff and/or peer educators involved in outreach programming
15% Suicide Prevention
- Manage campus-based suicide prevention initiatives, relevant grants, and reporting and assessment of suicide prevention in collaboration with SCC leadership and university partners
- Research and support the development and implementation of evidence-informed suicide prevention strategies that increase awareness of warning signs, protective factors, available resources, and intervention skills
- Collaborate with campus stakeholders to expand access to suicide prevention education and training opportunities
10% Evaluation
- Develop and implement assessment plans to evaluate outreach initiatives and measure program effectiveness
- Collect, analyze, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data related to participation, learning outcomes, student engagement, mental health literacy, help-seeking behaviors, and awareness of SCC services
- Use assessment findings to make data-informed decisions, improve programming in real time, identify service gaps, and guide future outreach priorities
- Prepare reports and communicate outcomes to SCC leadership and campus stakeholders
10% Communications and Promotion
- In partnership with Student Life Communications, serve as the SCC liaison for student-centered communications that promote mental health, increase awareness of counseling services, reduce stigma, and reflect the SCC mission, vision, and values
- Provide subject matter expertise and develop content for social media, print materials, websites, newsletters, presentations, campaigns, and other communication platforms in alignment with university communication standards
