Housed within the Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (IERES) at the Elliott School of International Affairs, the Central Asia Program (CAP) advances high-quality research on contemporary Central Asia by empowering local voices and international scholars and experts alike and serves as an interface for academic and policy communities. CAP has come to be at the vanguard of academic knowledge on Central Asia, as well as a global informational and educational platform on and for the region. The Program calls for a multidisciplinary approach combining the fields of political science, sociology, anthropology, economics, history, development studies, and security studies. It provides a platform for different-and often contradictory-points of view on contemporary Central Asia.
Position Specific Summary
The Student Program Coordinator will be responsible for:
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for the Central Asia Program and supporting all administrative activities.
  • Working closely with the program director to implement program timelines, goals, communications, and budgets.
  • Managing the program website, including making updates and troubleshooting issues.
  • Organizing in person and online Zoom events. Booking hotels and plane tickets and assisting with logistics for both the Uzbekistan Program's annual symposium and the CAP Annual Security Workshop.
  • Managing payments for commissioned papers and speaker fees for closed sessions and the symposium of the Uzbekistan Program.
  • Formatting papers for publication.
  • Developing and expanding the CAP mailing list, especially targeting audiences in Uzbekistan to increase the visibility of the Uzbekistan Program.

Standard Position Description
  • The student will assist in the management and leading of program(s).
  • Tasks may include leading and organizing programs; designing and implementing program timelines, goals, communications, and budgets; serving as a primary point of contact for the program; coordinating with collaborators and other departments reporting updates and outcomes; training and managing student staff.
  • Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.
