Job description

Position Summary/Purpose: Grand Canyon University (GCU) maintains relationships with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) by virtue of their charitable programs. The collective mission of 501(c)(3) organizations in the Phoenix Valley is to improve the quality of life for community residents or to solve particular problems related to those residents' needs.

GCU maintains a partnership with Hustle PHX located at 1 North 1st Street, Suite 708, Phoenix, AZ, 85004. Hustle PHX provides intellectual, social, and financial capital to low-income, underserved entrepreneurs to start businesses which glorify God and serve their community. They hope to empower entrepreneurs to support themselves, their families, and communities through wealth creation and job opportunities. The CSLP student worker's work schedule is dependent on the hours of operations and needs of Hustle PHX; however, CSLP student workers may not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year (i.e., fall/spring).

CSLP: This position has been reviewed and approved as Community Service as defined by 34 CFR 675.2(b). Per 34 CFR 675.2(b), community services are defined as, "Services which are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals, or to solve particular problems related to their need." These services must be open and accessible to the community.

As an FWS-CSLP approved position, its services will be offered to non-GCU community members (i.e., local residents).

Note: All FWS and FWS-CSLP positions require applicants to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa to be reviewed for FWS-eligibility and awarded FWS.

Primary Responsibilities /Accountabilities/ Essential Functions:

This role supports earlystage entrepreneurs through the ideation and validation phases of business development by helping refine business ideas, assess feasibility, and engage community feedback to build sustainable, incomegenerating ventures.

  • Provide workshop materials and assist with special events, such as Pitch Night.
  • Record attendance of workshops and collect other relevant program data, including workshop surveys.
  • Assist with the set up/tear down of workshops and events. Fill out and document site reports to capture relevant data on program participants and volunteer engagement.
  • Manage and oversee use of Discord by volunteers and entrepreneurs. Follow up with entrepreneurs who miss workshops or do not turn in assignments.
  • Communicate with and care for volunteers and entrepreneurs including workshop and homework reminders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Experience/Education:

Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:

  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a bachelor's program or master's program.
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.

You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.

Pay Rate: Minimum Wage
