Position Summary
Student Lab Technicians assist the Biology and Chemistry Dept. Lab Coordinators in the making
of media & solutions, cleaning & stocking labs, setting up lab classrooms and perform
other tasks as assigned. Lab Technicians will have the opportunity to learn laboratory
skills and techniques that are useful to lab science employers across San Antonio and
the US. The student Lab Technicians report to the Biology Laboratory Director.
This position is funded by the Federal Work-Study program and is open to UIW students
Essential Functions
- Cleaning & stocking lab classrooms and prep areas;
- Making media & solutions as needed;
- Helping to set up lab experiments in lab classrooms each week;
- Work with the Lab Director and science faculty on a regular basis;
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Ability to follow direction.
- Ability to communicate both written and verbally.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, theConference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Current UIW student approved and eligible to participate in the Federal Work-Study
program

Preferred Qualifications
Biology and Chemistry majors and Pre-Pharm/Pre-Med/Pre-Nursing students preferred

None.
Work Hours
- Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm.
- Average 12 hours per week as arranged by the department & student
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand for several hours
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
