North Central College is hiring Student Gallery Assistants to staff open hours at the Schoenherr Gallery in the Wentz Fine Arts Center, as well as exhibition preparation & execution for two additional gallery venues on campus.
Responsibilities
Welcome and engage with gallery patrons, ensuring a positive, accessible experience
Answer patron questions and share information about current exhibitions
Monitor gallery space to ensure artwork security
Support special events and exhibition preparation
Assist install & deinstall exhibits: loading artwork in and out
of campus galleries (Schoenherr, Oesterle, and Meiley-Swallow, as needed), posting marketing information around campus, clerical tasks, gallery maintenance, etc.
Prepare and support both current & future shows through marketing, social media, research, light maintenance & cleaning duties, etc.
Expectations
Work independently with minimal supervision
Communicate clearly and reliably with co-workers, patrons, and supervisors
Open to students of all majors interested in gaining experience in curatorial practice, educational programming, and nonprofit management
Must be available regular hours with minimum schedule changes. Everyone will work a minimum of 5 hours each week but should be available a minimum of 10 hours each week to allow for staffing needs. Special projects and additional hours frequently available.
Do the job duties for this position include any driving requirements? No Job Qualifications
Must be:
o enrolled as a student at North Central College
o available a minimum of 10 hours of availability and intend to work for at least 5 each week.
o available one Saturday a month
o available for a minimum of one special event per month
Will this position be working with minors? No Approximate number of work hours per week 5-7 hours on average. Depends on individual & team availability as well as overall Schoenherr gallery hours. Gallery hours (open) are mid-morning through early evening M-SA with special events a few times a semester. Looking for assistance during the summ
