1. Interacting with patrons of the college and performing arts events in a professional manner.
2. Contributing to team goals and initiatives by attending student trainings, working collaboratively on projects, and assisting the Fine Arts Venue & Guest Services Manager, Production Manager, Associate Director and the Director of Fine Arts when necessary.
3. Preparing for performing arts and external events by liaising with the supervisor on duty and fulfilling client needs whilst working with the Student Lead and the rest of the team for venue preparation and full event execution.
4. Interacting with volunteer ushers for the department; communicating with and coordinating them in a professional, helpful manner.
5. Attending monthly 'in-service meetings' to communicate with the Fine Arts Venue & Guest Services Manager, about programming or season updates, changes, and other important information pertaining to employment.
6. Opening and closing the box office during appropriate shifts, as well as opening and closing the box office for the nights of performances if the Box Office is in use for the event.
Fine Arts Event Student Worker

North Central College's Fine & Performing Arts Department is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Fine Arts Event Student Workers to help bring our vibrant events to life! In this multifaceted role, you'll gain hands-on experience in event management, customer service, and performance operations across our premier venues, including Pfeiffer Hall, Wentz Concert Hall, the Theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, and Madden Theatre. If you're a team player with a knack for organization and a passion for the arts, we encourage you to apply!
What You'll Do:

  • Event Set-Up & Support:
    • Efficiently set up and break down event equipment, including tables, chairs, and other necessary items for various performances and events.
    • Assist external groups utilizing college property for their events, ensuring safe practices and adherence to contract specifications and logistics.
    • Help with other event management tasks as needed, adapting to the unique characteristics of each event.
  • Box Office & Patron Services:
    • Opportunity for advancement into the box office desk shifts through training and assessment.
    • Process and sell tickets for performances using our online ticketing system, assisting patrons in person, over the phone, and with online orders.
    • Serve as a primary point of contact for patrons and guests, answering questions, providing directions, and ensuring a positive experience.
    • Prepare for events by organizing "will call" tickets and setting up for ticket sales.
    • Open and close the box office for shifts and performances as required.

Front-of-House & Coordination:
  • Assist with communicating professionally with volunteer ushers, including managing sign-ups and night of show coordination.
  • Help manage event attendees and maintain a welcoming and organized environment in the performance venues.
  • Serve as a distinguished and professional representative of North Central College at all events.
  • Team Collaboration & Training:
    • Contribute to team goals and initiatives by actively participating in student trainings and working collaboratively on projects.
    • Assist department staff as needed to ensure smooth operations.

What You'll Bring:

Availability: Must be available to work some night and weekend hours to accommodate performance schedules (typically a minimum of 2-3 events per month). Box office desk shifts require a further 2 hours weekly dedicated to shifts available during business hour, in addition to the 2-3 events per month minimum. Summer availability is preferred, though not required.
Customer Service: A strong commitment to delivering a high level of professionalism and excellent customer service, including event appropriate attire, which can be made available through assistance from the campus closet as needed.
Technical Skills: Computer proficiency is necessary, with a keen eye for detail.
Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, take initiative, and adapt to varying event needs.
Reliability: Punctual and dependable, ready to assist with a variety of tasks.
