Student Engagement Officer to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff while supporting student attendance, behavior, engagement, and overall well-being. This position serves as a bridge between students, schools, families, and community resources to help remove barriers to student success and promote a positive school culture.
Primary PurposeSupport student success by fostering positive relationships, promoting school engagement, improving attendance, assisting with behavior interventions, and connecting students and families with resources that support academic achievement and personal growth.
QualificationsEducation and Certification:- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree or bachelor's degree in education, criminal justice, social work, counseling, or related field preferred
- Valid Texas driver's license required
Special Knowledge and Skills:- Knowledge of student behavior intervention strategies and conflict resolution techniques
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff
- Knowledge of community resources and support services
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Ability to de-escalate conflict and support restorative practices
Experience:- Experience working with youth, families, or community organizations preferred
- Experience in a school setting, law enforcement, counseling, social services, or related field preferred
Major Responsibilities and DutiesStudent Engagement and Support- Develop positive relationships with students to encourage school engagement and academic success
- Assist students in identifying and overcoming barriers to attendance, behavior, and academic performance
- Serve as a mentor and positive role model for students
- Promote a safe, welcoming, and supportive school environment
Attendance and Behavior Support- Assist campuses with attendance improvement efforts and student engagement initiatives
- Monitor and support students with chronic absenteeism concerns
- Participate in behavior intervention planning and implementation as assigned
- Assist with conflict resolution and restorative practices when appropriate
Family and Community Outreach- Conduct parent and family outreach to support student success
- Assist families in accessing community resources and support services
- Participate in home visits and student support meetings as appropriate
- Foster positive relationships between schools, families, and the community
Collaboration and Communication- Work collaboratively with campus administrators, counselors, teachers, social workers, school resource officers, and district staff
- Participate in student support meetings and intervention planning
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to assigned responsibilities
- Communicate professionally and effectively with students, parents, and staff
Professional Responsibilities- Follow district safety protocols and procedures
- Participate in required professional development and training
- Support district initiatives related to student engagement and school safety
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Greenville ISD Police
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesWorking ConditionsPhysical Demands:- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and travel between campuses and community locations
- Occasional lifting and carrying of materials related to student support activities
Environmental Factors:- Work in school, office, community, and home visit environments
- Occasional evening activities and meetings as needed
Mental Demands:- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities
- Maintain emotional control and professionalism during challenging situations
- Ability to build rapport and effectively work with students and families experiencing barriers to success
