What is a Student DJ job?

A Student DJ is typically a student who plays music at campus events, parties, or local venues, often as a hobby or side job. They mix tracks, curate playlists, and create an energetic atmosphere for audiences. Some Student DJs work with college radio stations, clubs, or student organizations. It’s a great way to develop music skills, gain experience, and potentially build a career in the music or entertainment industry.

Is 27 too old to start DJing?

Student DJs and professional DJs can start at any age, including 27. Success in DJing depends on skills, practice, and building a network, not age. Many DJs begin later in life and achieve their goals through dedication and learning DJ software and equipment.

What are typical work environments and collaboration opportunities for Student DJs?

Student DJs often perform at campus events, clubs, parties, and local venues, where they interact closely with event organizers, sound technicians, and other DJs. Much of the job involves working independently to select and prepare music, but collaboration is common for co-hosted events, promotions, or campus radio shows. Building positive relationships and networking within the college community and local music scene can lead to more gigs and mentorship opportunities. This combination of solo practice and teamwork not only hones technical abilities but also expands your professional connections for future growth in the industry.

What jobs pay $700 a day?

For a Student DJ, earning $700 a day is uncommon and typically requires high-profile events, club residencies, or private parties, often involving advanced skills, equipment, and networking. Most entry-level or part-time DJ jobs pay less, but experienced professionals with a strong reputation can command higher daily rates in the entertainment industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Student Dj position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Student DJ, you need a solid understanding of music theory, beatmatching, and audio mixing, often gained through self-study, workshops, or formal courses in DJing. Familiarity with DJ controllers, mixers, DJ software like Serato or Traktor, and sound systems is crucial for performing and recording sets. Creativity, adaptability, and strong communication skills set exceptional Student DJs apart, allowing them to read crowds and network effectively. Mastery of these skills ensures engaging performances and opportunities to build a following, which are vital for success in the role.

Is $100 an hour good for a DJ?

For a student DJ, earning $100 an hour is considered above average, as beginner and part-time DJs typically earn between $20 and $50 per hour. Experienced or specialized DJs with professional equipment and a strong reputation can command higher rates, but rates vary based on location, event type, and skill level.

What is the rule of 32 in DJing?

The rule of 32 in DJing refers to a guideline for song transitions, suggesting that DJs should aim to mix tracks within 32 beats to ensure smooth and seamless transitions. This helps maintain the energy and flow of a set, especially when beatmatching and using DJ software or controllers. Mastering this rule can improve the overall quality of a DJ performance.

Job description

At Wedgewood Weddings, we believe every couple deserves a celebration that feels effortless, joyful, and unforgettable. Our DJs play a huge role in making that happen. From setting the perfect vibe on the dance floor to guiding guests through key moments of the evening, our DJs help create the energy that turns a wedding into a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

We’re looking for outgoing, reliable, and engaging individuals to join our growing team as Wedding DJs / MCs. Previous DJ experience is not required — we provide paid training and coaching. What matters most is your personality, professionalism, and ability to connect with people.

If you love music, enjoy being part of celebrations, and want to help couples have the best day of their lives, this could be a great fit.

What You'll Do

As a Wedding DJ with Wedgewood Weddings, you’ll help create seamless and memorable events by:

  • Hosting and MC’ing weddings and private events
  • Playing music that matches each couple’s style and keeps the celebration going
  • Making announcements and guiding guests through the event timeline
  • Collaborating with venue teams and other vendors to ensure events run smoothly
  • Meeting with couples ahead of their event to understand their vision and preferences
  • Delivering warm, professional hospitality to couples and their guests
  • Traveling to venues throughout the region and arriving prepared for event setup

We hire great personalities first. The ideal candidate is:

  • Outgoing, friendly, and confident speaking to groups
  • Reliable and organized
  • A strong communicator who enjoys working with people
  • Comfortable leading a room and creating a fun atmosphere
  • A team player who works well with venue staff and vendors
  • Passionate about hospitality and celebrations
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply

What We’re Looking For

  • Weekend availability (most weddings take place Friday–Sunday)
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable vehicle with insurance
  • Comfortable speaking on a microphone and engaging with guests

Why Choose Us:

  • Paid DJ training — no experience required
  • Flexible part-time hours that are perfect for students and those looking to earn extra cash on nights and weekends. Collaborative culture – thrive in a dynamic environment where teamwork, innovation and client satisfaction are at the heart of everything we do.
  • You’ll love the competitive pay; favorable bonus plan; PTO; paid holidays; sick leave; medical, dental, vision, accident and life insurance; a company funded health reimbursement account; or our 401(k) with company match.

At Wedgewood Weddings, our teams are known for creating welcoming, high-energy celebrations where couples feel completely taken care of. As part of our DJ team, you'll get to be at the center of that experience — helping couples celebrate one of the happiest days of their lives.

If you’re looking for a role that combines music, hospitality, and unforgettable events, we’d love to meet you.
