General Summaryย 

This is a full-time, 12-month faculty position. Responsibilities include instruction, course and curriculum development, professional development, service to students, and service to the college and community. The faculty member willย facilitateย classroom instruction; evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic support;ย maintainย attendance and grade records; advise students on academic and career goals; support student retention efforts; andย maintainย required classroom and office hours.ย 
As a Building Construction Technology Instructor, the faculty member will provide competency-based instruction that prepares students for employment in residential and commercial construction occupations. Instruction includes classroom, laboratory, and hands-on training that emphasizes safety, technical knowledge, craftsmanship, professionalism, and workforce readiness.

Essential Functionsย 

As a Building Construction Technology Instructor in the TCAT at Chattanooga State, your primary responsibility will beย teachingย this vital program area. You willย facilitateย instruction, evaluate students,ย monitorย progress, assign grades,ย maintainย records, counsel students, and support retention.ย 
Develop andย maintainย a Learning Management System site and maintain curriculum and advisory committee activities.ย 
Instructional areas include Construction Safety, OSHA Standards, Blueprint Reading, Construction Mathematics, Hand and Power Tools, Site Layout, Concrete Construction, Residential and Commercial Framing, Roofing, Exterior and Interior Finishes, Doors and Windows, Drywall, Cabinet Installation, Basic Plumbing, Electrical and HVAC Concepts, Building Codes, Construction Regulations, Construction Equipment Safety, Employability Skills, and NCCER competencies.ย 
Maintain a safe training environment and inventory of tools, equipment, materials, and facilities.ย 

Professional Growthย 

Remain current within assigned instruction, construction technologies, industry standards, instructional methodologies, and professional practices. Attend professional development andย participateย in annual faculty evaluation.ย

Position Requirementsย 

High School Diploma or GEDย required. Minimum five years of residential and/or commercial construction experience. Demonstrated competency in construction methods, carpentry, framing, finish work, blueprint reading, construction mathematics, and safety practices. Evidence ofย abilityย toย teachย students. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to remain current in the construction industry. Basic computer skills. Validย driverย license.ย 

Preferred Requirementsย 

Associate or Bachelorย degree; NCCER Instructor Certification; OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification; prior teaching, apprenticeship, or workforce training experience; relevant industry certifications and licenses.ย 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilitiesย 

Computer skills with Microsoft products. Comprehensive knowledge of residential and commercial construction practices. Commitment to academic excellence. Positive and cooperative disposition.ย Strong communicationย skills. Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, employers, contractors, and advisory committee members.ย 

Physical Requirementsย 

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, work in classroom and construction environments,ย lift upย to 50 pounds,ย operateย construction tools and equipment, and work indoors and outdoors.ย 

Salaryย Range: $56,263 - $67,517ย 

Commensurate with experience and according to Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines.ย
