Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting a student with Type 1 diabetes using advanced technology in a school-based setting near Elizabeth, NJ. You’ll provide dedicated 1:1 care during the 2026-2027 school year, ensuring safety and well-being for a thirteen-year-old student using Dexcom CGM and Omnipod insulin pump systems. This position is exclusively onsite and runs from September 1, 2026, through June 23, 2027, with steady weekday hours from 8:10am to 3:00pm.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Current LPN or LVN license, in good standing
- Experience working with children or adolescents, preferably in a school environment
- Proficiency with Type 1 diabetes management, including use of continuous glucose monitors and insulin pumps
- Familiarity with Dexcom and Omnipod technology is highly preferred
- Must demonstrate skill in recognizing glucose patterns and troubleshooting devices
- Confidence in performing finger-stick glucose checks and responding promptly if device readings don’t match observed symptoms
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with families and school staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide trustworthy 1:1 nursing care for a student with Type 1 diabetes throughout the school day
- Monitor and manage insulin and glucose levels with advanced technology and manual backups as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation of care provided, treatment decisions, and incident reports
- Collaborate closely with parents, teachers, and administrators to ensure seamless care
- Respond promptly and compassionately to health concerns as they arise
- Uphold student confidentiality and support a positive, inclusive learning environment
