What are some common challenges student babysitters face when balancing work with academics?

Student babysitters often juggle school responsibilities alongside their babysitting jobs, which can make time management a significant challenge. Coordinating schedules with families while accommodating class times, homework, and extracurricular activities requires strong organizational skills. Being proactive in communication and setting clear expectations with families can help student babysitters manage these challenges effectively.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide full childcare for three young children in the family's home.

  • Transport the 5-year-old to and from half-day pre-K.

  • Prepare light meals for the children, do children's laundry a few times per week, and tidy shared and common areas.

Job description

A welcoming, active family in Greenville, NC is searching for a dependable, nurturing live-in nanny to become a trusted and long-term part of their home. This is a wonderful opportunity for a nanny who truly loves young children, enjoys an energetic household, and is looking to build a meaningful, lasting role with a family.
Meet the Family.

This loving family has three young children, all cared for at home:
  • 5-year-old (attends half-day pre-K; transportation required).
  • 2-year-old.
  • 10-month-old.

The children are curious, playful, and thrive with a nanny who brings warmth, patience, and gentle structure to their days. The parents value kindness, consistency, and positive discipline and are looking for a nanny who feels like a true partner in supporting their childrenโ€™s growth.
The home also includes two friendly, energetic Goldendoodles, so comfort around dogs is a must.
The Role:

This is a live-in position with private accommodations provided. The nanny will play an essential role in daily childcare while helping keep the household running smoothly.
Daily responsibilities include:
  • Full childcare for all three children.
  • Transportation to and from half-day pre-K.
  • Light meal preparation for the children.
  • Childrenโ€™s laundry a few times per week.
  • Tidying shared and common areas.
  • Supporting learning through play (counting, colors, drawing, early education).

Outdoor play is highly encouraged and may include walks, park outings, and visits to play spaces. All activity costs and subscriptions are covered by the family.
Schedule & Hours:
  • 36 guaranteed hours per week.
  • Minimum 4-hour daily shifts.
  • Minimum 3 days per week, with flexibility for additional hours and occasional weekends.

Typical schedule may include:
  • Monday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM (flexible; work-from-home day).
  • Tuesday: Morning start through 7:00 PM.
  • Thursday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • Starting at $20/hour.
  • Guaranteed weekly minimum: $720.
  • Overtime paid at time and a half.
  • Health insurance stipend.
  • Bonuses offered.
  • Mileage reimbursement.
  • Payroll managed through HomeWork Solutions.

Paid time off includes:
  • 2 weeks paid vacation annually (30 daysโ€™ notice preferred).
  • 6 paid sick days per year.
  • Paid holidays: Christmas Eve, New Yearโ€™s Eve, Thanksgiving Day.

The Ideal Nanny:

The ideal candidate is patient, loving, and organized; confident managing three young children; comfortable around dogs; and reliable with a clean driving record. Candidates must have a vehicle that can safely accommodate three children.
The family prefers a non-student nanny to ensure consistent scheduling and is seeking a long-term commitment of 2+ years as the role evolves with the childrenโ€™s needs.
Location Transparency:

For privacy and safety, the familyโ€™s residential address will be disclosed once an interview is scheduled.
