Job description

American Traveler seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist for a hospital main OR position requiring 2+ years of experience across Neuro/ENT, Orthopedic, and General surgical specialties.

Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of core surgical technologist experience, with most recent experience within the last year
  • BLS certification required
  • Active license required if applicable
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Experience with Neuro/ENT, Orthopedic, and General surgical case types
  • Familiarity with Medtronic, Stryker, and Synaptive navigation systems preferred
  • Robotic surgery (XI) training provided only for candidates with a strong background and longer contract commitment
  • Candidate's middle name or initial required for consideration
  • Candidate date of birth and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Responsibilities
  • Level III Trauma Center and Level III NICU hospital with Magnet Designation and Primary Stroke Center
  • 636-bed facility with a 21-bed OR unit
  • 8-hour evening shift with hours from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • 1:1 patient ratio
  • Cross-trained to General Main OR specialty and Urology center, regardless of hiring position
  • No floating to other hospitals or sites
  • On-call requirements include EOS call and 2230-0700 shift slots on an 8-week rotating schedule with a 30-minute response time
  • Weekend call rotation of 1-2 weekends per 8-week schedule (Saturday & Sunday 24-hour shifts)
  • Holiday weeks offer 4x10-hour shifts or the option to take the holiday unpaid
  • Case types include Spine Surgeries (laminectomies, ALIFs, fusions, discectomies), Cranial Surgeries (tumors, VP shunts, subdural, EVDs), ENT (neck dissections, sinus surgery, tonsils, tympanoplasty), Orthopedic (fractures, anterior hips, total joints, ortho spine, hand/podiatry), and General surgeries (breast/plastics, vascular, laparoscopic, oncology, GU, GYN, robotic)
  • Uses Medtronic, Medtronic Stealth, Stryker, and Synaptive navigation systems for cranial, spine, and ENT procedures
  • Uses Hanna Table for orthopedic procedures
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris, and Pyxis systems
  • Orientation is 1-1.5 weeks depending on team and shift assignment
  • First-time travelers not recommended for this position; further approval and evaluation from the hiring supervisor required if considered
  • Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius rules
  • Surgical scrubs are provided by the hospital; scrub caps allowed if covered by a surgical bouffant
  • Free parking available with shuttle service to and from the parking structure
  • On-campus dining options include Starbucks and a cafeteria
  • No call rooms available
  • Support on the unit includes Charge Nurse, Leads, Supervisors (AM, PM, and weekend), and Manager
  • Point of contact for additional information includes the hiring supervisor and educators
