Job description

HR Generalist

Location: Santa Clara, CA (Onsite)
Employment Type: Initial 6-month 1099 Contract
Reports To: Sr. Director of HR
Compensation: $40-$60/hour

Who We Are

T45 Labs is a Silicon Valley-based medical device innovation company dedicated to transforming breakthrough ideas into technologies that improve patient care. We partner with visionary entrepreneurs, engineers, physicians, and scientists to build and scale companies developing next-generation cardiovascular technologies.

Our team thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced startup environment where initiative is valued, achievement is recognized, bureaucracy is minimal, and individual contributions have a visible impact. We're builders by nature, energized by helping innovative companies grow and develop technologies that improve patients' lives.

Who We're Looking For
  • A culture-creator who leverages your Working Genius of Tenacity and natural gift of Galvanizing, rallying, inspiring, and organizing others to take action.
  • You are comfortable creating momentum, coordinating across teams, gaining cooperation, and moving people from discussion to execution. You communicate clearly, follow up confidently, and keep HR initiatives visible and moving without waiting for constant direction.
  • You also have the natural gift of pushing projects and tasks to completion to achieve results. You push for required standards of excellence and are energized by seeing the impact of your work. You take ownership, close loops, track details, meet deadlines, and remain engaged until the work is fully completed.
  • You bring energy and forward movement to HR initiatives while also maintaining the discipline and persistence required to carry them through. You are organized, responsive, confident working across functions, and comfortable holding yourself accountable for agreed-upon actions.
  • You are comfortable interacting with people at every level of the organization-from interns to engineers, PhDs, MDs, executives, and Board Directors-and can adapt your communication style while remaining clear, professional, and approachable.
  • You thrive in a growing, early-stage startup environment where processes are still being developed and priorities may shift quickly. You bring structure to ambiguity, communicate directly, exercise sound judgment, and move work forward without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
What You'll Do

This is an initial 6-month 1099 contract with the potential, but not guaranteed, opportunity to become a regular employee.

As the HR Generalist, you will provide hands-on HR support across T45 Labs and its portfolio companies. You will administer the systems, documentation, employee processes, and day-to-day activities that keep HR operations accurate, responsive, and moving forward.  Administer and improve core HR operations and HRIS processes, including employee data, reporting, system accuracy, personnel records, and document maintenance.

  • Maintain complete, accurate, and organized employee records across systems, files, and employment structures.
  • Coordinate with PEO and EOR partners to address payroll, benefits, employment administration, and operational requirements for employees in different locations or employment structures.
  • Investigate HRIS, payroll, benefits, and employee data issues, coordinate with the appropriate internal and external resources, and follow through until they are resolved.
  • Collaborate with the Sr. Director of HR to develop and implement a practical performance management framework, including goal setting, review cycles, manager guidance, supporting documentation, communications, and organizational follow-through.
  • Keep HR initiatives visible and moving by communicating expectations, following up with managers and employees, identifying roadblocks, clarifying next steps, and closing outstanding items.
  • Analyze HR data and prepare reporting to identify trends, gaps, or inconsistencies that may inform workforce planning, compensation, benefits administration, and other people-related decisions.
  • Administer employment-related documentation, including NDAs, consulting agreements, offer letters, employment agreements, amendments, and related records.
  • Coordinate the preparation, review, routing, execution, and filing of employment documents, ensuring information is accurate and required approvals are obtained.
  • Review compensation and equity-related information as needed, including verifying that approved offer terms, compensation changes, and stock option awards are accurately documented.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment, including planning, employee communications, deadlines, participation tracking, and follow-up.
  • Serve as the go-to resource for employee benefits questions, investigate issues, and work with benefits partners to resolve them promptly.
  • Coordinate new employee onboarding and orientation with the Sr. Operations Manager and IT, including documentation, scheduling, technology setup, internal communications, and first-day readiness.
  • Track onboarding activities and follow up with employees, managers, IT, and other stakeholders to ensure all required steps are completed.
  • Develop, document, and improve HR procedures, workflows, templates, and internal resources as the organization grows.
  • Support employee communications, compliance-related administration, and other HR initiatives and operational priorities as business needs evolve.
What You'll Bring
  • 2-4 years of progressive experience as an HR Generalist, including hands-on HR operations and employee administration experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Hands-on experience administering HRIS platforms and working with PEO and EOR partners.
  • Demonstrated experience with benefits administration, onboarding, employee records, and employment-related documentation.
  • Experience in the medical device, life sciences, or another regulated industry is a plus, but not required.
  • SHRM-CP certification is a plus.
Why Work for T45 Labs?

This is an opportunity to do more than administer HR processes. You'll help build the operational foundation that enables innovative medical device companies to grow and succeed.

You'll work alongside talented engineers, scientists, and business leaders who are passionate about developing technologies that improve patients' lives. Your work will be visible, your ideas will be welcomed, and strong performance and meaningful contributions will be recognized.

If you're energized by building, enjoy creating order from complexity, and want your work to make a difference, we'd love to hear from you.
