What is structured finance?

Structured finance refers to complex financial instruments offered to borrowers with unique or sophisticated needs, typically beyond the scope of conventional lending. These financial solutions often involve pooling various financial assets and dividing them into tranches to manage risk and meet investor preferences. Common examples include asset-backed securities (ABS), collateralized debt obligations (CDOs), and mortgage-backed securities (MBS). Structured finance helps companies and financial institutions raise capital, manage risk, and improve liquidity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in structured finance?

To thrive in Structured Finance, you need strong analytical abilities, a solid understanding of financial modeling, and typically a degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Proficiency with Excel, financial modeling software, and familiarity with securitization processes or relevant certifications such as CFA or FRM are often required. Exceptional attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to work under tight deadlines set standout professionals apart. These skills ensure accurate deal structuring, effective risk management, and successful collaboration in complex financial transactions.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in structured finance, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in structured finance often encounter challenges such as navigating complex deal structures, staying current with regulatory changes, and managing risk across multiple asset classes. These challenges can be addressed by maintaining strong analytical skills, collaborating closely with legal and compliance teams, and participating in ongoing professional development. Additionally, open communication with cross-functional teams, such as risk management and sales, helps ensure that solutions are both innovative and compliant with industry standards.

    • Additional duties as assigned from time to time by Management.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in capital markets, investment banking, corporate finance, private credit, structured finance, or a related field.

  • Experience managing transaction due diligence and coordinating across lenders, legal counsel, and internal stakeholders.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and demonstrated ability to produce accurate, high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with banks, private credit funds, institutional investors, or other capital providers.
  • Experience in AI, cloud infrastructure, data centers, technology, or another capital-intensive industry.
  • Familiarity with post-closing financing requirements, including lender reporting, covenant compliance, amendments, and waivers.
