What is a structured credit executive?

Structured Credit Executives are financial professionals who specialize in managing, structuring, and overseeing complex credit products such as collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), asset-backed securities (ABS), and other securitized debt instruments. Their responsibilities often include assessing credit risk, developing investment strategies, structuring deals, and managing client relationships. They work closely with investment banks, asset managers, and institutional investors to create tailored credit solutions that meet specific financial objectives. Structured Credit Executives play a key role in navigating regulatory requirements and market trends, ensuring that structured products are both profitable and compliant.

What are some common challenges structured credit executives face when managing complex financial products?

Structured Credit Executives often encounter challenges related to the complexity of structuring and analyzing bespoke financial products, such as collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) and asset-backed securities. Staying updated on regulatory changes, market volatility, and counterparty risks requires strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Collaboration with risk, legal, and trading teams is essential to ensure accurate modeling and effective risk mitigation. Additionally, managing client relationships and tailoring solutions to meet unique investor needs can be both demanding and rewarding.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a structured credit executive, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Structured Credit Executive, you need strong quantitative analysis, financial modeling, and knowledge of structured finance products, typically backed by a degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Familiarity with financial modeling software, credit risk analysis tools, and advanced Excel or programming skills, as well as relevant certifications like CFA, are commonly required. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities help build client relationships and navigate complex deals. These skills are vital for accurately assessing risk, structuring innovative financial solutions, and ensuring successful transactions in a competitive market.

This individual will also serve as a strategic credit partner to the sales team throughout the transaction process.
Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial statements, cash flow, leverage, liquidity, debt-service capacity, collateral, ownership structures, and other relevant risk factors.
  • Identify the primary strengths, weaknesses, and mitigating factors associated with each transaction.
  • Recommend credit structures that support business objectives while remaining consistent with established risk parameters.
  • Prepare comprehensive credit memoranda and present recommendations to senior credit and executive leadership.
  • Evaluate transactions involving complex borrower structures, customized programs, and nonstandard terms.
  • Partner with business development professionals to assess transaction feasibility and recommend appropriate structures.
  • Exercise independent credit judgment and manage assigned transactions with limited supervision.
  • Coordinate with legal, documentation, operations, and other internal teams to address credit and closing requirements.
  • Complete credit reviews accurately and within established service expectations.
  • Support portfolio quality through disciplined underwriting and the consistent application of credit standards.
  • Participate in process-improvement initiatives and other projects supporting the continued growth of the large-ticket business.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of equipment finance credit underwriting experience.
  • Direct experience underwriting large-ticket, complex, or structured equipment finance transactions.
  • Advanced ability to analyze income statements, balance sheets, cash-flow statements, tax returns, and supporting financial information.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing formal credit memoranda and presenting credit recommendations.
  • Ability to independently identify risk and develop sound, well-supported underwriting conclusions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and other financial analysis tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple transactions and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High degree of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling confidential information.

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Detail-oriented with a strong analytical mindset.
  • Confident making independent credit decisions and recommendations.
  • Comfortable working with complex or incomplete information.
  • Collaborative and capable of building productive relationships with sales and operational teams.
  • Solutions-oriented, adaptable, and accountable.
  • Interested in joining a growing, performance-driven organization with opportunities for continued professional development.

  • The opportunity to join a rapidly growing national equipment finance platform.
  • A collaborative, technology-focused working environment.
  • Meaningful exposure to complex, large-ticket transactions.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
  • Competitive compensation and a comprehensive employee benefits package.
