Job Summary

The Senior Fiber & Structured Cabling Technician will further be responsible for the assembly, install, repair, and maintenance of telecommunications structured cabling systems, fiber optic backbone, campus cabling and cabling for wireless access points. Structured cabling will include cabling for commercial buildings, industrial applications, and temporary facilities. Fiber optic work will include installation of cable inside/outside buildings and involves installing field connectors, splicing cables using a fusion splicer, and testing utilizing OTDR and Power Meters.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret, and maintain drawings and specifications
  • Install structured cable components. (Cat 5E, Cat 6, Cat 6A, Fiber Optic)
  • Installation and testing of communication circuits via available communications cabling network
  • Service, maintenance, and troubleshooting on commercial and/or industrial communication circuits and/or cabling networks
  • Repair, replace faulty components if necessary
  • Repair and adjust valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings.
  • Able to read and interpret telecommunication drawings and specifications
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of assigned apprentices and new workers
  • Represent the company face to face with the customer directly requesting the work when needed
  • Good customer service skills
  • Interpret company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    • 5 - 10 years of fiber and/or structured cabling experience
    • College Technical Diploma or equivalent in a related field preferred

    • TE Connectivity certification training
    • CommScope SYSTIMAX certification training
    • Belden certification training
    • Corning certification training

    Other Requirements

    • Full, valid, and current driver’s license

    • Clean 5-year driver’s abstract

    • Clear Criminal Background Check

    • Successful completion of a Pre-Access Drug & Alcohol test, with ongoing random testing as required by clients

      Physical Demands:

      The Fiber and Structured Cabling Technician must be able to spend the majority of the day sitting, walking, and/or standing. They may be required to stoop, bend, kneel and squat for extended periods of time. They also may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 50lbs for short distances.
