Job description


SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking a passionate Safety Engineer I or II - Structured Cabling who can interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Safety Engineer will work to implement Mortenson's Zero Injury Safety program at a project site and ensure a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors to the construction work site.
  • We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time. .
  • Data center or MEP experience preferred, but not required.
  • Travel is 100% anywhere in the U.S. with regular rotations home every 3 weeks for 4 days until project is completed or assigned to another project.
    The following requirements are non-negotiable. Must have either a 2 or 4 yr degree in health or safety OR meet all 3 of the following: 1. HS Diploma 2. OSHA30 AND 3. STS or CHST by the BCSP (NCCER, CHSO, SSHO certs do not meet certification requirement)

This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 and 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implement and administer safety program at each worksite, assist in developing site-specific safety activities, conduct safety orientation/training

  • Document and track safety violations, conduct safety audits, analyze safety data, assist with major incident analysis, manage OSHA reporting

  • Review safety submittals, monitor trade partner work plans, assist with onsite injury management, organize safety celebrations, participate in project planning/hazard analysis

  • Provide safety-related information, evaluate industrial hygiene concerns, maintain knowledge of safety standards/regulations, serve as safety resource, attend/chair safety meetings

  • Collaborate with client safety personnel, union representatives, insurance risk engineers, accompany safety/health/OSHA personnel on tours, ensure maintenance of safety equipment, manage PPE and safety budget

  • Build effective relationships with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's or associate degree in occupational safety, health, or related field preferred

  • OR High school diploma with CHST or STS certification, OSHA 30 Hour training, and minimum five years of construction experience

  • Previous related internship experience a plus

  • Current driver's license

  • Detail-oriented, able to organize and manage multiple project tasks

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety-related software programs

  • Positive, professional attitude and strong customer service skills

  • Ability to interpret and communicate company policies

  • Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills

  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills

  • Effective communication and active listening skills, openness to diverse input and feedback, ability to travel up to 100%

Safety Engineer I
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: [see above]

  • The base pay range for this role is $78,800 - $98,500

Safety Engineer II
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of related experience

  • The base pay range for this role is $81,800 - $110,400

(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
