About the role
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Structured Cabling Technician who will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of cabling systems for our organization. This role is primarily a national travel position, supporting projects across the country at various client job sites, with the potential for international travel. You should expect frequent and extended travel as part of standard work assignments. As a Structured Cabling Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring reliable connectivity and communication solutions for our clients' projects. Your expertise in network cabling, fiber optics, and industry standards will be crucial in delivering high-quality and efficient cabling solutions.
What you'll do
  • Collaborate with project teams to understand cabling requirements, specifications, and project goals.
  • Install and route various types of cables, including data, voice, and video cables, following established guidelines and safety procedures.
  • Terminate cables and connectors, ensuring accurate wiring schemes and optimal signal integrity.
  • Test and certify cabling systems using appropriate testing equipment and techniques.
  • Perform cable pulling, dressing, and management within structured cabling systems.
  • Install and configure network equipment, such as racks, patch panels, and cable trays.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose cabling issues, identifying, and resolving connectivity problems.
  • Document cabling installations, labeling, and pathways according to industry standards.
  • Work closely with other construction professionals to coordinate cabling installations with other building systems.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a secure work environment.
  • Maintain a neat and organized work area, keeping tools and equipment in good condition.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress and any challenges encountered to supervisors or project managers.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in cabling systems, such as BICSI Technician are highly desirable.
  • Proven experience as a Cabling Technician or similar role, with a good understanding of network cabling installations and maintenance. 3+ years experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in using cabling tools and equipment, such as cable testers, fusion splicers, OTDRs, termination kits, and cable management systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to producing accurate and high-quality work.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • In-depth knowledge of cabling standards, including structured cabling systems (e.g., ANSI/TIA-568, ISO/IEC 11801) and fiber optic cabling (e.g., OSP, ISP) preferred.
