The Robotics Engineering team is an Enterprise Level organization that is responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing Robotics and Automation technology into all areas of the Shipyard.
Electric Boat is experiencing a period of unprecedented growth, with existing facilities undergoing renovations, new buildings under construction and more to follow. Now is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team responsible for shaping the future of shipbuilding through the insertion of manufacturing technology. These state-of-the-art robotics and automated solutions allow Electric Boat to be the most valued provider of nuclear submarines while improving product quality, personnel safety and driving down critical construction costs and schedules.
The Robotics Engineering Group is looking for a Robotic Manufacturing Representative to apply shipyard manufacturing experience to the development of new robotic technologies located throughout Electric Boat. This position require work with the robotics team, vendors and individually to develop robotic technologies and supporting documentation that will ensure robotic Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule and Performance initiatives are met for multiple complex activates across all of Electric Boat.
Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Provide Recommendations for System Upgrades and New Robotic and Automation Systems
  • Work with Robotics Team to compare current and future state processes and develop system functional specifications
  • Support / Lead Robotic Development Projects to include system design reviews, testing, facilities integration and implementation
  • Robotic Programming and Program Code Reviews with Operations
  • Provide Configuration Control of Robotic Systems
  • Support Robotic Systems by providing updating hardware, software and documentation based on Lessons Learned during Implementation
  • Develop, Implement and Transition Robotic Training Initiatives and support instruction of Engineering, Operations and Maintenance Personnel
  • Develop, Implement and Transition Robotic Maintenance Procedures and Maintenance Schedules
  • Provide onsite troubleshooting and construction support for robotic manufacturing activities

Qualifications
Required:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
  • 2 + year of experince in Submarine Building / Manufacturing, Robotic Operation, Technician or Programming Experience
  • Understanding of structural steel manufacturing processes specifically cutting and welding processes
  • Specific Knowledge of ABB Robots or UR Cobots
  • Proficiency with MS Office Products
  • Mechanically and computer inclined and capable of interpreting robotic programs, work packages, drawings, ER's, and SSP's
  • Candidate should possess knowledge in areas of structural fabrication, steel cutting beveling, forming operations, semi-automatic and mechanized welding

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Knowledge of welded fabrication specifications (military or commercial); metallurgy; and NDT method
  • Knowledge of joint designs and the ability to read blueprints
  • Experience in submarine/ship manufacturing and production environments, particularly in areas of part fabrication, ship modular construction, sub-assembly automated fabrication and outfitting
  • Experience / Understanding of Optical Tool / Accuracy Control Methodologies including Spatial Analyzer
  • Proficiency with Corrigo, MRP II and/or Electronic Desktop

Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must possess the ability to work in a cross functional team including all levels of Management
  • Ability to work independently as well as be willing to lead team efforts between Engineering, Automated Processing, Operations, Accuracy Control, Planning, Facilities and Safety departments.
