Fortran Steel Contracting Ltd. is a leading structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication company serving commercial, industrial, and institutional construction projects. We are currently seeking a motivated and career-driven Junior Project Coordinator to join our growing Ottawa team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in the structural steel industry. The successful candidate will work closely with our Senior Project Coordinators and leadership team, gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of project execution with a clear path for growth into a Senior Project Coordinator role.

We are looking for someone who is organized, proactive, eager to learn, and ready to take ownership in a fast-paced construction environment.

- Key Responsibilities

- (Including but not limited to)

- Work closely with Project Coordinators, subcontractors, site supervisors, shop foremen, and internal teams to support active projects

- Assist with project planning, scheduling, tracking, and day-to-day coordination of multiple jobs

- Source materials and assist with procurement for upcoming and ongoing projects

- Confirm drawings, materials, and site readiness prior to deliveries

- Take field measurements for fabrication, installation, and coordination purposes

- Attend site meetings, progress meetings, and internal coordination meetings as required

- Review erection drawings with subcontractors prior to installation

- Help manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, extras, schedules, and project documentation

- Maintain accurate project records including costs, inspections, timelines, and communications

- Assist with remedial / repair details and field issue resolution

- Conduct site safety walks while promoting safe work practices and company standards

- Support estimating or pricing for project changes when required

- Qualifications & Skills

- Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings and specifications accurately

- Working knowledge of structural steel fabrication, erection, and installation practices

- Familiarity with OBC, CISC, CWB, CSA standards, and applicable construction codes

- Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and project sequencing

- Highly organized with strong time-management and multitasking skills

- Strong communication skills and confidence dealing with trades, clients, and project teams

- Able to work independently, take initiative, and contribute as part of a team

- Thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word); project management software is an asset

- Valid driver’s license required

- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada

- Experience Required

- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or related construction industry

- Prior project coordination or construction management experience is considered a strong asset

- Language Requirements

- Fluent in English (spoken, reading, and writing)

- French is considered an asset
