Overview
Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a highly qualified PHMS Engineering Supervisor to join the Pressure and Hazardous Material Systems (PHMS) team, part of the Engineering Solutions branch of the Test Operations and Sustainment contract at Arnold Engineering Development Complex, Arnold AFB, TN. The PHMS Engineering Supervisor will be leading an integrated team responsible for certifying and maintaining the mechanical integrity of pressure vessels and piping systems, directly supporting the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

Job Summary
The primary responsibility of the person hired into this position is to lead PHMS personnel in performance of analysis and consultation for mechanical integrity assessments of primarily pressure vessels, process piping systems, and existing facility infrastructure used in ground testing of air and space systems. Work will involve managing and directing PHMS personnel in the use of ASME and American Petroleum Institute (API) Codes and Standards to support performance of in-service inspections and mechanical integrity assessments. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong attention to detail, an interest or experience in engineering forensics and/or reverse engineering, structural integrity and material properties, and the ability to communicate with other engineers effectively.
Job Duties:
  • Direct staff to safely perform field work and engineering assessments in support of the AEDC mission.
  • Manage daily operations and oversight of PHMS personnel including assigning of projects.
  • Identify and advocate manpower and resources to assure completion of established objectives.
  • Recommend and implement new policies, modification to existing policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Conduct regular project status meetings and reviews, preparing and presenting progress reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, promoting continuous improvement and professional development within the project team.
  • Supervise inspection of pressure vessels and piping systems through field visits to verify, record, and report pertinent information to determine equipment integrity and make recommendations.
  • Supervise performance of calculations / analyses, including ASME Code calculations and Fitness for Service assessments to verify compliance with code.
  • Provide consultation regarding code compliance for pressurized systems.
  • Direct PHMS staff in the assessment for the mechanical integrity of process piping, pressure vessels, and system devices and components; as-built system drawings; and the development & field checking of drawings for each system, as directed.
  • Ensure collection of relevant data from field visits such as name plate stamping, dimensions, as-built configuration, component and device information for use in mechanical integrity assessments.
  • Reverse engineer existing systems and/or components using non-destructive test (NDT) data and performing engineering analysis.
  • Perform independent research, reviews, studies and analyses in support of technical projects and programs.
  • Be accountable for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of work, ensuring proper configuration management and assuring that standard design criteria, practices, procedures, and codes are used in preparation of plans and specifications.
  • Review technical reports which document work performed, analysis, results, and recommendations.
  • Recommend equipment, new concepts and techniques to improve inspections, engineering evaluations, and reporting.
  • Work inside/outside, confined spaces and elevations in industrial environments.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or civil/structural engineering from an accredited college or university plus 15+ years of experience of mechanical or structural engineering experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
  • Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience performing design, fabrication, testing, or in-service inspection of Pressure Vessels and Systems (PV/S) utilizing post-construction codes.
  • 2+ years of experience performing flexibility and stress analysis on ASME B31 process piping systems, calculating pressure ratings for welded/threaded process piping, or performing ASME B&PV Code calculations on Division 1 and Division 2 Pressure Vessels.
  • Experience implementing Mechanical Integrity programs, including the ability to lead, direct, and train others in performing mechanical integrity assessments of PV/S. Practical knowledge of Fitness for Service assessment methods and the application of NDE (Non-Destructive Evaluation) methods for identifying fabrication and service-induced defects.
  • Demonstrated application of codes and standards: ASME Section VIII, ASME B31, ASME PCC-2/NBIC NB-23, API 510/570, API 580/581, and API 579-1/FSS-1. Active certification as a Pressure Vessel Inspector (API 510) or Piping Inspector (API 570).
  • Technical proficiency with engineering software, specifically PV Elite, CAESAR II, Ansys, AutoCAD, MathCAD, and SagePlus.
  • Prior experience working within AEDC test and plant areas, including familiarity with AEDC Engineering/Safety Standards, the AEDC Drawing Management System (sketches/NORs), and site-specific tools like Enovia and OWAM.
  • Strong oral/written communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance.
