Job description

GAI Consultants, Inc is seeking an EIT - Engineer in Training to work out of our Homestead, Cranberry, or Southpointe, PA office. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their college education and related work experience to develop professionally into a well-rounded engineer with the ability to grow in today's global environment. 

Job Duties: 

  • Assist in water/wastewater process and pipeline design projects for industrial and municipal clients (power plants, steel manufacturing and data center/mission critical facilities, etc.).
  • Assist in Civil Engineering design and calculations for water, wastewater, and stormwater components of new development, modification or remediation projects. 
  • Participates in technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications, and technical plans. 
  • Filling out and completing permit applications for processing. 
  • Field work may include water sampling, site inspection, and construction administration support including completing field observation reports. 
  • Prepare plans utilizing AutoDesk Civil 3D. 

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to work indoors in professional office settings.  
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based tasks. 
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling office equipment. 
  • Visual acuity to read printed materials, digital screens, detailed documents, and perform detailed work. 
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching within the office environment. Ability to move between workstations and attend in-person meetings. 
  • Ability to lift and carry office materials or equipment weighing up to 10-20 pounds, with or without assistance. 
  • Adequate hearing to participate in conversations, phone calls, and virtual meetings. 
  • Ability to travel for meetings, training, or business purposes. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors (B.S.) degree from an accredited college in Environmental or Civil Engineering (M.S. degree a plus)
  • EIT certification required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong technical writing skills.
  •  Ability to work in a team environment and work independently as needed on project-specific tasks.
  • Dedicated commitment to performing quality work with a positive attitude and work ethic.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and BIM desired.
  • Knowledge of NPDES permitting
  • Knowledge of GIS software is a plus, including using Arc GIS software and using the software in modeling water and waste/water networks.
  • Industrial water or wastewater treatment experience for projects in the power, data center or manufacturing markets

  • Collaboratively uses judgment to determine adaptations in methods for nonroutine aspects of assignments.
  • Applies principles of probability and statistics to determine risk relevant to engineering.

Minimum Years of Experience

  • 4+

Education

  • B.S. or M.S. Engineering

Certification/Licensure

  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and obtained engineer-in-training (EIT) or engineering-intern (EI) certification.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Performs moderate design tasks.
  • Prepares portions of plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Performs research and field investigation.

Project and Task Management

  • Works as a part of a team and coordinates work with others.
  • Assists in determining schedule and budget requirements.

Management Responsibility

  • Receives instruction on specific objectives.
  • Receives direction on unconventional and/or complex problems and possible solutions.
  • Receives a thorough review of completed work for the application of sound professional judgment.
  • Receives mentorship from a licensed engineer typically in their specialty.

Communication Skills

  • Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates assertiveness and cooperation in managing conflicts.
  • Interacts with internal and external project team members.
  • Assists with official communication pertaining to specific assignments/meetings.
