Job description

Overview
Colliers Engineering & Design, is currently seeking a Senior Buildings Structural Engineer to join our Structural Engineering team in our Portland, OR office.
From complicated industrial design to simple load ratings, Colliers Engineering & Design engineers will ensure your project meets today's safety standards as well as your functional requirements. Our structural engineers are able to design the structural systems for buildings, foundations, and earth retention structures for all types of new construction, additions, and renovations. Our engineers have the knowledge and experience to design projects constructed of steel, timber, reinforced concrete, or masonry.
By developing strong connections with our clients, Colliers Engineering & Design engineers ensure our designs enhance the health, welfare, safety and comfort of building occupants. Our projects include new buildings, renovations and re-purposing. Our engineers will create an environment that is cost effective and employs the most up to date sustainability practices.
Streamlined coordination with other in-house services has facilitated an efficient approach and complete engineering package that spans all phases of structural design and construction. This includes feasibility studies, scope and condition assessment, code compliance review, static/dynamic load analyses, drawing preparation, bidding services, and construction administration.
Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering calculations with the aid of computer software, spreadsheets, and hand calculations.
  • Create structural design plans and details in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Coach and Mentor more junior staff.
  • Perform site visits, make observations of ongoing construction progress, and survey the structural components of existing buildings.
  • Coordinate with architects, owners, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Review shop drawings and respond to RFI's.
  • Perform QA/QC related tasks.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering from an ABET accredited University.
  • P.E. required.
  • 10+ years of professional structural engineering experience required.
  • AutoCAD proficiency required.
  • Proficient in Revit required.
  • Possess an intermediate to advanced understanding of structural design software such RISA, RAM, TEKLA, TEDDS, SAFE, PROFIS, etc. with a willingness to learn and adapt to new software.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to new software and client needs.
  • Understanding of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design principles.
  • Mass timber experience or desire to learn preferred.
  • Knowledge of current building and material design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE7, AISC360, ACI318, ACI 530 or NDS.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Able to work independently and also collaboratively on a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $108,000 to $135,000 per year (depending on qualifications)
