Job Description

YOU MUST BE AUTHORIZED TO WORK IN THE UNITED STATES

Learn how to weld, fit, and assemble structural framework and materials such as angle iron, I-beams and pother steel components. You will be paired with a senior Fitter as an apprentice/trainee under the supervision of the Fabrication Training and Development Manager. You will perform such work consistent with corporate mission, values and departmental financial objectives.

Canam Bridges US, Inc., has a US DOL certified Apprenticeship program for Fitters and Welders through ApprenticeshipNH.

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to perform with assistance from a supervisor or assigned co-workers.
  • Possess the ability to learn layout, alignment and how to fit together fabricated parts of structural metal products according to shop drawings, prints and layout specifications.
  • Learn how to produce a product that meets recognized standards and customer expectations by maintaining quality procedures.
  • Must learn to demonstrate basic layout skills independently.
  • Must learn how to neatly and accurately cut and shape material of varying thicknesses and sizes using mechanical and manual cutting devices.
  • Must learn how to straighten sections and components using oxy/fuel torch flame.
  • Must be able to qualify to tack weld in all positions using multiple welding processes.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor including but not limited to, cleaning, trash, scrap removal, and other production related jobs.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an effective manner with customers, co-workers, clients and supervisors.
  • Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of the area.
  • Perform in a safe and conscientious manner. 
Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 16 years old.
  • Knowledge of welding and assembly experience is helpful.
  • Must possess basic reading and mathematical skills.
  • Register as an apprentice through the Registered Apprenticeship Partners Information Database System (RAPIDS).

Physical Demands:
The ability to stand continuously is essential with occasional walking and sitting. The nature of the position will require employees to perform a wide range of physical activities ranging from pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying heavy objects (60-100 lb) climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling. Repetitive motions and awkward body positioning. Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

Work Environment:
Required to work near moving mechanical parts and machinery under supervision. Working conditions may include being outside or inside in all environmental conditions. Potential exposure to: nuisance fumes and airborne particulates. Potential risk of electric shock. Potential burn hazards such as: UV light radiation, open flames, sparks and other sources. Noise levels in the work environment will require the use of appropriate hearing protection at all times. The correct usage of PPE will be required at all times.
