Job description

Job Title: Structural Project Engineer
Department: Structural Engineering
Reports to: Project Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Structural Project Engineer plays a key role in the successful execution of structural engineering projects from initial design through final documentation and delivery. This position is responsible for managing day to day project activities, maintaining quality control, and ensuring that project deliverables meet both technical standards and client expectations.
Work will primarily focus on building types such as commercial developments, office buildings, big box retail, hospitality projects, parking structures, educational facilities, municipal buildings, and multifamily residential projects. The Structural Project Engineer brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to coordination and problem solving throughout all phases of a project.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. However, the Structural Project Engineer is expected to provide guidance, direction, and coordination to internal project team members as part of daily project execution.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Project Execution and Delivery
  • Oversee and actively participate in all phases of structural engineering projects, from conceptual design through preparation of contract documents and final delivery
  • Develop and produce structural calculations, drawings, and specifications that align with project requirements and applicable codes
  • Ensure that all deliverables are accurate, complete, and issued on schedule
  • Maintain a high level of quality control throughout the project lifecycle

Technical Design and Engineering
  • Apply strong technical knowledge in structural engineering to develop efficient and practical design solutions
  • Make independent engineering design decisions based on experience, sound judgment, and established standards
  • Perform structural analysis and design for a wide range of building systems and materials
  • Prepare and review detailed engineering calculations to support design intent

Project Coordination
  • Plan, organize, and monitor project tasks to ensure alignment with overall project goals and timelines
  • Direct and coordinate workload among project team members to maintain productivity and efficiency
  • Collaborate with internal disciplines and external partners to ensure seamless integration of structural systems with architectural and other engineering components
  • Communicate regularly with the Project Manager regarding project status, challenges, and resource needs

Documentation and Review
  • Prepare, coordinate, write, and edit structural specifications, calculations, and technical reports
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for conformance with design documents and project requirements
  • Provide clear and timely feedback on submittals to support construction progress

Field Observation and Assessment
  • Conduct site visits for structural observation during construction to verify that work is consistent with design intent
  • Perform building condition assessments and document findings with clear recommendations
  • Coordinate with field personnel and contractors to address questions or issues that arise during construction

Travel
  • Travel may be required up to 25 percent of the time to support project needs, including site visits, client meetings, and coordination efforts

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and accountability in managing assigned work and meeting deadlines
  • Consistently delivers high quality service and technical work
  • Communicates clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow through
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project demands
  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Enercalc, RISA, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318, NDS, AISI, and SJI
  • Experience designing with a wide range of structural materials and systems, including structural steel, steel joists, reinforced concrete, masonry, wood, cold formed metal, retaining walls, tilt up concrete, and both shallow and deep foundation systems

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with structural concentration.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in structural engineering.
  • Professional engineering licensure is preferred, or the ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.

PAY TRANSPARENCY
Where required by applicable law, the pay range for this position is provided in the job posting. Compensation is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, education, internal equity, geographic location, and business needs. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses and or benefits in accordance with applicable plans and policies.
PAYROLL
Employees paid on a bi-weekly basis, consisting of 26 pay periods annually, and is issued in arrears. Direct deposit is available.
