Job description

Structural Engineer

Bl companies is growing and looking for a motivated Structural / Civil Engineer to join our team. This role combines technical engineering responsibilities with leadership development opportunities, giving the candidate a chance to make a significant impact on both projects and the organization. This position can be based in any of our Northeast offices.

The role will focus on developing and reviewing structural and civil engineering designs, creating site and permitting plans, conducting field reviews, managing submittals, and participating in leadership development programs to contribute to both project success and organizational growth.

The ideal candidate will be versatile, capable of performing both structural and civil engineering tasks, and eager to grow.ย

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop structural plans, sections, and details; evaluate existing structures using computer analysis and hand calculations in accordance with applicable building codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Create site plans, permitting drawings, basic grading and drainage designs, and utility layouts.
  • Review reports and drawings from other disciplines to ensure project alignment.
  • Conduct field reviews, site observations, and prepare summary reports.
  • Review structural submittals, shop drawings, and contractorsโ€™ requests for information (RFIs).
  • Research permit requirements and local regulations.
  • Participate in BLโ€™s leadership development programs, contributing to organizational growth while enhancing personal leadership skills.
  • Adapt to current project needs by performing both structural and civil engineering tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering.
  • EIT certification required.
  • Minimum 3 yearsโ€™ experience designing buildings or other structures.
  • Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete, steel, and masonry design.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and technical communication skills.
  • Reworded to โ€œProficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, familiarity with RAM/RISA, and other industry-standard design platforms.
