Staff Civil Engineer - Site Development
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Job Summary
Fishbeck is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Civil Engineer to join our Site Development team in our Grand Rapids, MI office. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer to contribute to a growing practice and play a meaningful role in the firm's continued expansion.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical fundamentals, a commitment to high-quality work, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment. This role offers exposure to a variety of project types and opportunities to grow within a 100% employee-owned firm.
Primary Functions
  • Plan and design civil and site development projects, including site layout, grading, stormwater management, and utilities.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including architecture, MEP, and structural engineering on projects such as Higher Education, Retail, Commercial, and Industrial developments.
  • Assist in delivering consulting engineering services for state and private universities, national retailers, municipalities, architects, and local development clients.
  • Coordinate with other Civil Engineering teams across Fishbeck, including Municipal, Transportation, Water Resources, and Water/Wastewater.
  • Participate in a multi-office, team-oriented environment, interacting regularly with internal project teams.

Minimum Physical Requirements
Mobility to work in both office and field settings. Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods. Occasional lifting and carrying may be required. Ability to travel to and navigate project sites for client meetings and site observations. Visual acuity necessary to perform design and documentation responsibilities. Accommodations may be made for otherwise qualified individuals.
Desired Education
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
Desired Skills/Experience
  • 3 years experience.
  • Successfully passed the FE exam (EIT certification preferred).
  • Relevant internship, co-op, or field inspection experience in site development or general civil engineering.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D software.
  • Strong computer proficiency and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
