Overview
We are currently seeking a structural engineer for our New York City district with experience in the design and/or construction of residential and/or commercial buildings. The successful candidate will assist in determining the cause, origin, and extent of construction defects, structural failures, water intrusions, and other failures. An understanding and proficiency of installation standards, practices, and procedures within the building construction industry is essential.
Although this position is remote, the candidate will travel in the NY/NJ areas and surrounding states for two to three hours daily. The candidate must reside in the NYC or Long Island areas.
The salary range for this position is $104,100 - $156,100 and is dependent on education, experience, location, and certifications/licensure.
Essential Job Functions
  • In this key position, you will be involved in investigating and analyzing residential, commercial, and industrial properties to resolve claims and legal matters.
  • Assignments may include contract disputes, installation deficiencies, material deficiencies, site evaluations, settlement investigations, structural assessments, and vibration analyses.
  • Duties include gathering photographic evidence, conducting investigations to document on-site conditions, overseeing field-testing, and reviewing historical documentation.
  • Preparation of oral and written reports to document the causes of failure, extent of loss, associated repair scope, and recommended remediation is essential, as is providing opinions and expert testimony in litigation matters.

Requirements:
  • Ability to initiate, develop, and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering.
  • 10 years minimum engineering experience working with residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
  • PE license required.
  • NCEES record required.
  • Experience handling litigation and investigations is required.
  • Knowledge of fundamental architectural and/or engineering principles, construction, and building component assemblies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, OVERTIME, AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, to clients and other involved parties, regarding the details of the project's engineering/architectural issues.
  • Must be willing to drive 2-3 hours per day for fieldwork.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform inspections in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to inspect building roof structures and crawlspaces.
