Assembler-Structural

Performs all operations necessary in the location, installation, assembly and integral mating of major structural sub-assemblies and assemblies, working from blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions, under minimum supervision, and with or without specialized tooling and jigs.

Job Summary

  • Lays out and locates necessary reference lines for structural components or assemblies in building the initial and subsequent production structures specified by design or modification changes.
  • Positions and lays up parts, using tooling jigs and fixtures, when available.
  • Fits, assembles, and shapes parts; determines proper tools (size and length), and performs such operations as drilling, reaming, countersinking, riveting, boring, filing, etc.
  • Positions parts according to work order and blueprint specifications.
  • Fastens parts together with bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets, or other fasteners including sealant and adhesives.
  • Operates drill press, hot dimpler, or riveting machine to assist in assembly operation.
  • Removes small quantities of metal with hand files, blenders, and rollers to produce close fit between parts.
  • Continuously improve the assembly process and contribute to the teamwork necessary to continuously improve other processes.
  • Improvises shop aids to facilitate assembly and installation, as required.
  • May perform structural repair and rework on assemblies.
  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including leading projects and participation in project committees.
