Join a long-established, family-owned steel fabrication company in the Columbus area that specializes in structural steel for schools, hospitals, banks, and multi-story buildings. In this role, you will weld structural steel components according to blueprints, contribute to high-quality fabrication projects, and develop your skills through on-the-job training and certification.

Responsibilities
  • Weld structural steel beams together in accordance with detailed blueprints and project specifications.
  • Perform MIG and flux core welding on structural steel ranging from approximately 1/16 inch up to 2 inches in thickness.
  • Complete a 16-gauge steel weld test in a flat position and perform additional weld tests on various sizes as required.
  • Work primarily in flat-position welding, ensuring approximately 90% of welds meet quality and safety standards.
  • Review and interpret blueprints to lay out pieces accurately before welding and assembly.
  • Assemble and weld pre-laid-out components into finished structural assemblies, maintaining accuracy and alignment.
  • Assist with fabrication tasks such as grinding, layout inspection, and general finishing work to ensure high-quality end products.
  • Operate a forklift as needed to move materials and finished assemblies safely around the facility.
  • Support other employees and projects by filling in where needed across different roles in the fabrication shop.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area in a busy fabrication environment.
Essential Skills
  • Prior welding experience specifically on structural steel components.
  • Proficiency in MIG welding and flux core welding on various steel thicknesses.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and apply them to layout and welding tasks.
  • Capability to perform welds predominantly in a flat position, with approximately 90% of work in this position.
  • Experience with fabrication processes, including layout and assembly of steel components.
  • Basic skills in grinding and layout inspection to ensure weld quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • Willingness and ability to assist in different roles within the facility, including operating a forklift and supporting other projects.
  • Readiness to complete a 16-gauge steel weld test in a flat position as part of the hiring process.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Prior fabrication experience in a structural steel or metalworking environment.
  • Experience laying out pieces from blueprints for structural assemblies.
  • Exposure to TIG welding techniques, even if not the primary welding process used.
  • Comfort performing various weld sizes and adapting to different project requirements.
  • Interest in obtaining an AWS certification, with training and certification provided by the company.
Why Work Here?

You will join a stable, family-oriented company that has operated without layoffs for over three decades, offering a strong sense of security and continuity. The organization invests in employees through training and AWS certification opportunities, supporting both skill development and long-term career growth. A comprehensive 401(k) plan, paid vacation and holidays, and annual profit sharing contributed to the 401(k) reflect a commitment to rewarding hard work and shared success.

This role is based in a non-climate-controlled steel fabrication facility in the Columbus area, where you will work around structural steel beams and heavy fabrication equipment. The standard schedule is a 1st shift, typically 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with an alternative schedule of 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday when needed.
