While both roles focus on striking techniques, a Striking Coach trains athletes in various striking arts including boxing, kickboxing, and MMA, whereas a Boxing Coach specializes specifically in boxing techniques and strategies. The choice depends on the athlete's sport focus and training needs.

What are some common challenges Striking Coaches face when working with athletes of varying skill levels?

Striking Coaches often work with athletes ranging from complete beginners to advanced competitors, which can present challenges in tailoring instruction to each individual's needs. Adapting drills, communication styles, and feedback for different skill levels is essential to ensure everyone progresses effectively. Balancing group dynamics while providing personalized attention and keeping training sessions engaging for all can require creativity and strong organizational skills. Success in this role often depends on the coach's ability to foster a positive learning environment and continuously adjust their coaching strategies.

What is a Striking Coach?

A Striking Coach is a specialized trainer who helps athletes improve their striking techniques in combat sports such as boxing, kickboxing, or mixed martial arts (MMA). They teach proper form, footwork, timing, and strategy for punches, kicks, elbows, and knees. Striking Coaches design training programs that develop power, speed, and accuracy while also focusing on defense and movement. Their expertise is essential for athletes looking to excel in stand-up fighting and overall competition performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Striking Coach, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Striking Coach, you need in-depth knowledge of striking techniques, fight strategies, and a background in disciplines like boxing, Muay Thai, or kickboxing, often supported by coaching certifications. Familiarity with training tools such as pads, bags, and video analysis software is typically required. Excellent communication, motivational ability, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for instructing athletes and adjusting techniques to individual needs. These skills ensure effective athlete development, injury prevention, and success in competitive combat sports environments.

Job description

Job Title: Group Fitness Coach / Boxing & Fitness Instructor โ€“ RockBox Fitness Summerville
About the Role
Are you a high-energy fitness professional who loves inspiring others, smashing goals, and delivering an unforgettable workout experience?
RockBox Fitness Summerville is looking for the next superstar Group Fitness Coach to join our squad. We donโ€™t do boring workouts here. We combine boxing, kickboxing, and functional HIIT training into a premium, high-octane experience.
We aren't just looking for someone to push "play" on a playlist. We want a community builder who is hungry to pack their classes, drive studio utilization, and grow our local fitness family. If you have a contagious energy, a strong work ethic, and the ability to command a room, we want you in our ring.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver the Experience: Lead dynamic, pre-designed large-group fitness classes that combine heavy-bag boxing/kickboxing combinations with functional strength training.
  • Onboard First-Timers: Welcome prospective members, teach our "Boxing Basics" orientation, wrap hands professionally, and ensure they have a safe, world-class first experience.
  • Elite Movement Coaching: Demonstrate flawless form on both the striking and functional sides of the workout (including dumbbells, kettlebells, and TRX straps). Provide regressions and progressions on the fly to accommodate all fitness levels.
  • Drive Member Retention: Build genuine relationships with members, track class utilization, celebrate their fitness milestones, and actively support studio challenges, events, and promotions.
  • Collaborate on Sales: Partner with the front desk team by executing a seamless "handoff" process after class, helping convert first-time guests into long-term members.
  • Maintain the Standard: Take pride in the studio environment. Ensure the arena, technology systems, and equipment are pristine, organized, and fully prepped for the next shift.
What We Are Looking For
  • The "X-Factor" Energy: A loud, motivating coaching voice and a magnetic personality that keeps members engaged from the warm-up to the cool-down.
  • Product of the Product: You practice what you preach. We expect our coaches to regularly jump into classes as participants, sweat alongside our members, and be an active, visible part of the RockBox community.
  • Striking Knowledge: Direct experience with boxing and kickboxing technique (Thai bags and tear bags) is highly preferred, though we will train the right athlete.
  • Fitness Savvy: Strong understanding of exercise mechanics, physiology, and proper body movement. A nationally recognized fitness certification (NASM, ACE, ISSA, etc.) is a major plus.
  • Community & Brand Mindset: Comfortable using digital tools and social media to connect with members, promote studio events, and naturally build hype to grow your class headcount.
  • Team Players: Dependable individuals who are flexible enough to coach during our peak studio hours (early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends) and happy to assist with front-desk operations when needed.
  • Safety First: Current CPR/AED certification required.
Benefits & Perks
  • Competitive per-class pay structure built to reward high class utilization and attendance.
  • Free studio membership and access to workouts.
  • Official RockBox coaching gear.
  • A vibrant, community-focused team culture with opportunities to grow within the studio.
Ready to step into the ring, build your brand, and inspire our community? Apply today to join the coaching team at RockBox Fitness Summerville!
