We are currently seeking highly qualified candidates for full-time research position in Networking and Distributed Systems Lab at Hewlett Packard Labs. The Networking and Distributed Systems Lab focuses on researching and developing cutting-edge networked systems technologies, architectures and systems for next generation AI, HPC, Enterprise and Telecommunication Infrastructure. Our diverse team with a broad range of skillsets and expertise fosters innovation and development of new ideas not possible in traditional monolithic research organizations. Research areas of our interest include (but are not limited to):
  • HPC, cloud, datacenter and enterprise networks
  • Cloud, AI and HPC workload orchestration
  • WiFi/Cellular/NextG seamless communication
  • B5G/6G RAN/core development
  • Next generation media (e.g., XR, AR, VR)
  • FPGAs, GPUs, and SmartNICs
  • Disaggregated systems and interconnects (CXL, PCIe, NVLink, UALink, etc)
  • Storage and distributed systems
  • Sensing and localization
  • Network programmability and virtualization
  • Network monitoring and anomaly analytics
  • Network and information security

We are particularly interested in individuals with a doctoral degree in Computer Science or Electrical & Computer Engineering. Excellent networked systems building skills are a significant plus. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in distributed systems, HPC and AI workloads, enterprise and telecommunication networks, cloud applications, & network protocols. Excellent understanding of the current state of the art, major trends and opportunities as well as a demonstrated track record in making things real in innovative ways is considered a plus.

Education, Experience and Skills:
  • Finishing or recently completed Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline, such as computer science, electrical or computer engineering
  • Proven track record of world-class innovative research contributions
  • Strong programming and system-building skills
  • Highly Desirable: C/C++, Python, Linux Kernel development, Network Stack
  • Experience with CUDA, PyTorch, K8s, TensorFlow, KNative, OpenvSwitch and other control and orchestration platforms
  • Proficiency in network protocols and technologies, including but not limited to Ultra Ethernet, Slingshot, Collectives Communication, IP, TCP/UDP, P4, 5G, eBPF, DPDK etc.
  • Knowledge of WiFi/cellular protocol stack
  • Experience with wireless systems building including SDRs (e.g. USRPs)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly motivated with an ability to work independently and well with others in a team
