We ensure that solutions transition into operational use, strengthening warfighter readiness and survivability. Our work spans warfighter wellness, biosurveillance, infectious disease, trauma care, and AI-driven decision making.  

Summary:

The Functional Strength Coach provides Holistic Health and Fitness (HHF) support to Airmen assigned to the Contingency Response Wing (CRW). This position develops and delivers mission-specific strength and conditioning programs designed to improve physical readiness, strength, endurance, mobility, durability, and performance for demanding contingency response operations.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Improve Airmen’s mission-ready physical and mental performance and reduce preventable injuries.
  • Enhance cognitive resilience, decision-making under stress, and fatigue management.
  • Provide evidence-based HP programs tailored to the Contingency Response Wing mission sets including high-tempo, short-notice deployments. This includes ensuring Airmen possess the strength, endurance, mobility, and durability to perform rapid airbase assessment and opening, heavy load carriage, equipment movements, and aircraft handling, security operations in contested or degraded environments, extended operations with limited rest cycles, and high-tempo mobility tasks requiring repeated explosive effort.
  • Provide portable, mission-specific HP guidance to Airmen before deployments, ensuring Airmen are fully equipped to maintain performance without contractor presence.
  • Support sustained readiness across diverse Air Force Specialty Codes (AFSCs) by designing HP solutions that reflect the varied demand of CRW career fields. Each AFSC must receive mission-specific performance guidance, including field-ready sustainment options.
  • Provide an integrated holistic evaluation for CRW Airmen and facilitate timely, responsiveness for strength & conditioning, functional strength, and mindfulness coaching.
  • Develops and implements evidence-based strength and conditioning programs tailored to CRW mission requirements
  • Coaches Airmen on proper exercise technique, movement patterns, load management, mobility, and injury prevention
  • Designs training programs supporting heavy load carriage, equipment movement, aircraft handling, repeated explosive efforts, and extended operations.
  • Provides portable and field-ready training guidance to support continued performance during deployments and austere operations.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrate the ability to pivot HP support with the same agility expected of CRW forces.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to support mission-specific strength, conditioning, run, lifting, mobility, and field-ready performance training.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Kinesiology or Exercise Science from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum two years of experience as a practicing strength coach
  • Certified as a Tactical Strength & Conditioning Facilitator®(TSAC-F®) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) by the NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association).
  • Ability to work nonstandard schedules and in field conditions as required.
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Travel: CONUS travel may be required for meetings, conferences, training, and off-site training support.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree

The salary range for this position is $75,000.00 to $80,000.00 annually.
