The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for leading and optimizing the end-to-end supply chain for our medical device manufacturing organization. This on-site role oversees purchasing, planning, and strategic sourcing to ensure the efficient procurement of materials, effective production planning, and strong supplier relationships. The Director of Supply Chain drives cost reduction, supply continuity, inventory optimization, and operational efficiency while aligning supply chain strategy with overall business objectives.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions:  

Supply Chain Leadership

  • Develop and implement supply chain strategies that support company growth, operational efficiency, and cost management.
  • Lead and mentor the Purchasing Manager, Planning Manager, and Commodity Managers, ensuring alignment with company goals and performance expectations.
  • Drive KPIs and performance metrics for purchasing, planning, and sourcing functions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across supply chain operations.

Procurement & Strategic Sourcing

  • Oversee purchasing operations to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of raw materials, components, and services.
  • Guide Commodity Managers in developing sourcing strategies, supplier negotiations, and long-term supplier partnerships.
  • Manage supplier performance, risk mitigation, and contract negotiations.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and supply base optimization.

Production Planning & Inventory Management

  • Supervise the Planning Manager in managing demand forecasting, production scheduling, and inventory levels.
  • Ensure alignment between sales forecasts, production capacity, and material availability.
  • Implement inventory control strategies to minimize excess stock while maintaining service levels.

Supplier Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and strategic partners.
  • Monitor supplier quality, delivery performance, and compliance with company standards.
  • Lead supplier development and risk mitigation initiatives.

Operational Excellence

  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and finance teams to ensure supply chain effectiveness.
  • Implement systems and processes that improve supply chain visibility and efficiency.
  • Drive the optimization of ERP/MRP systems for supply chain planning and procurement.

Financial & Strategic Oversight

  • Manage supply chain budgets and cost performance.
  • Provide leadership in make/buy decisions, cost modeling, and supply chain risk analysis.
  • Support new product introduction by ensuring supply readiness and supplier alignment.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field (MBA preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5-7 years of leadership experience managing purchasing, planning, and sourcing teams.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement strategies, production planning, inventory management, and supplier negotiations.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and data-driven decision making.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience operating in an ISO-13485 / FDA environment or similar regulated industry preferred.
  • Oracle experience is a plus.

Preferred Certifications:

  • APICS CPIM, CSCP, or similar supply chain certification.

Salary and Benefits:

  • $175,000/yr. - $195,000/yr. depending on experience + variable target bonus (Compensation will vary based on skills, experience and location; it is not typical to be hired at or above the top of the salary range).
