You will be working in the Commercial Services EF based in Pilgrims Lane where we are responsible for driving commercial transformation across Skanska UK where we create smarter ways of working that unlock value, strengthen partnerships and set us up for long-term success. 


We are currently looking for a Senior Buyer who will negotiate and place material orders against operational requisitions including the collation of all contractual documentation, logging and maintenance of orders. Administration of sub-contractor details including pre-qualification questionnaires, performance data and input of information to the database.


As the Senior Buyer, you will:

  • Minimise the cost of plant and materials and services to Skanska whilst supporting the need for a safe and sustainable supply chain
  • Negotiate with suppliers, work to project and bid timelines and comply with Skanska's Procurement Policies.
  • Use Skanska's Oracle ERP system to place orders, manage tenders and run reports.
  • Produce tender recommendation reports for procurement management approval.
  • To participate and support internal and external audits on procurement.
  • Assist and where required lead tender activities for Procurement, work with other internal functions and meet bid deadlines.
  • Management and development of others including buyers and procurement administrators.


We are looking for:

  • Experience in procurement, buying or supply chain activity, ideally within construction, infrastructure, civil engineering or a project environment.
  • Confident use of Microsoft 365, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and willingness to work with procurement/purchasing systems including Oracle.
  • Good commercial awareness, attention to detail and ability to compare supplier proposals clearly.
  • A professional approach to supplier and stakeholder engagement, with confidence to follow up, challenge and keep activity moving.
  • Interest in the construction supply chain and how procurement can improve value, safety, carbon, quality and social value outcomes.
  • Experience of tendering, negotiation, purchase orders or subcontract administration would be beneficial.
  • Ideally working towards a relevant professional qualification such as CIPS.
