Job description

Project Manager / Estimator – Commercial Construction

A growing commercial construction firm is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Manager / Estimator to oversee and manage all phases of construction projects, from estimating and pre-construction planning through successful project execution and closeout. The ideal candidate has strong experience in both project management and estimating, preferably with a background in drywall, metal framing, or related trades.

This dual-role position requires a detail-oriented professional who can develop competitive project bids, manage budgets, coordinate field operations, and ensure successful delivery that meets quality, schedule, and budget expectations. The position offers an excellent opportunity for a driven individual to take full ownership of project lifecycles, working closely with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.


Key Responsibilities

Pre-Construction & Estimating

  • Analyze project drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop accurate and competitive estimates.

  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs for labor, materials, and equipment using industry-standard software.

  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes for scope, pricing, and compliance.

  • Prepare and submit comprehensive bid proposals.

  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, job walks, and client negotiations.

  • Identify value engineering opportunities and contribute to cost-saving strategies.

Project Planning & Execution

  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resources.

  • Review contract documents and coordinate kickoff planning with internal teams.

  • Serve as the primary liaison for clients, subcontractors, and field teams.

  • Conduct site visits to monitor progress, safety, and quality.

  • Lead regular project meetings and update stakeholders on cost, schedule, and production status.

Cost Control & Risk Management

  • Establish and maintain project budgets and ensure alignment with estimated costs.

  • Track financial performance, identify variances, and implement corrective actions as needed.

  • Identify project risks and develop proactive solutions.

  • Assist in change order development and negotiations.

Communication & Team Leadership

  • Coordinate closely with superintendents, engineers, and estimators throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Mentor junior team members to align with company standards and expectations.

  • Foster strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and trade partners.

Quality & Safety Oversight

  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with quality standards and client specifications.

  • Enforce company and industry safety protocols on job sites.

  • Troubleshoot construction challenges in collaboration with field teams.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or equivalent field experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in commercial construction, including estimating and project management.

  • Strong knowledge of drywall, metal framing, or similar trades is preferred.

  • Proficiency with construction and estimating software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Plexxis, On-Screen Takeoff, Quick Bid).

  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards.
