Position Summary
The Commercial Operations Manager is a commercial execution leader responsible for bringing process discipline, business visibility, and operational rigor to a complex, long-cycle sales environment. Reporting to the Director of Sales Strategy & Operations and working closely with Business Development leadership, this role translates systems, data, research, and cross-functional inputs into stronger commercial execution across Business Development and Partnerships.
This is a hands-on operations role designed for a consultative sales environment where complex enterprise opportunities progress over extended sales cycles and require sustained engagement, strong information management, and coordinated execution. The Commercial Operations Manager helps ensure leadership has a clear view of the business, opportunities advance with appropriate structure and follow-through, and the team has the information, materials, and processes needed to operate effectively.
Key areas of responsibility include pipeline governance and structured reviews, CRM reporting and data quality, Weekly and Monthly Business Review preparation, commercial data and research, sales-platform adoption and campaign support, proposal and RFP development, sales enablement, and coordination of cross-functional commercial initiatives. The role is expected to identify gaps, organize complex inputs, develop strong first-pass work, and help establish repeatable processes that improve execution and reduce reliance on informal knowledge and one-off effort.
Located at our office in Naperville, IL. Our office environment is a key driver of our company culture and employee experience, so a regular in-office hybrid model (generally T-TH in office and M & F remote) is required.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Support RFP responses, proposal development, contracting coordination, and related commercial projects by organizing contributors, developing first-pass content, maintaining process visibility, and preserving reusable knowledge.
  • Improve the adoption and effectiveness of sales engagement, prospect-intelligence, and opportunity-sourcing platforms while supporting outreach campaigns, performance tracking, onboarding, and future BDR operating needs.
  • Support pipeline visibility, business reviews, forecast interpretation, and executive reporting to help leadership understand opportunity movement, risks, priorities, and required actions.
  • Maintain CRM processes, reporting dashboards, and data-quality standards while identifying information gaps and translating business needs into practical reporting, process, or system improvements.
  • Gather and synthesize internal data, external research, account intelligence, and business inputs to support prospecting, opportunity strategy, presentations, case studies, partner materials, and other sales-enablement needs.

We're Excited if this is You!
Experience and Qualifications of the Role:
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Sales Operations, Revenue Operations, Commercial Strategy, Business Operations, or a closely related B2B function.
  • Experience supporting complex, consultative, or long-cycle enterprise sales processes.
  • Demonstrated impact on pipeline visibility, data quality, deal execution, operating discipline, or sales-team productivity.
  • Advanced CRM proficiency, including dashboard creation, reporting, data management, pipeline governance, and business-requirements development.
  • Experience preparing structured pipeline reviews, business-performance reporting, or executive-level commercial updates.
  • Strong analytical, research, and writing skills, with the ability to translate information from multiple sources into clear business narratives and usable outputs.
  • Experience supporting RFP, proposal, or other cross-functional commercial processes.
  • Familiarity with sales-engagement, prospect-intelligence, data-visualization, proposal-management, or workflow-automation tools.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate stakeholders, and move ambiguous assignments toward practical outcomes.
  • Experience in a private equity-backed, high-growth, performance-driven, public-sector, utility, or similarly complex commercial environment is preferred.

Computer skills Needed to Perform the Job:

  • Collaboration and workflow tools -- Experience coordinating cross-functional work and maintaining shared information and deliverables.

Preferred:

  • Workflow automation tools for process design and operational efficiency
  • Project management tools for cross-functional coordination and timeline management
