What You'll Do and Who We Are Looking For

Department: Small Business Development Center (SBDC)

Reports to: Director, SBDC

Classification: Part-time Casual Professional

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provides one-on-one business advising services to potential or existing small business owners.

  • Refers client businesses for all SBDC services, classes, programs.

  • Refers clients to appropriate resources, agencies, persons, or materials as needed.

  • Keeps accurate computerized records of services required by the SBA and Oregon SBDC Network for tracking and funding purposes.

  • Consults with the SBDC Director, administrative team, and PCC SBDC business advisors to discuss ways to best serve clients.

  • Communicates and empathizes with business owners in a patient, professional, and sincere manner to help small business owners start, grow, and expand healthy businesses.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge, skills, and experience in advising small business owners in business development.

  • Strong written, listening, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas and information effectively to others.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to empathize with clients and quickly translate experience into practical advice.

  • Proficiency with standard office software and online applications, including but not limited to: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Basecamp, Zoom, and CMS platforms.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management or related field, or three years (minimum) of practical business experience. Master's degree preferred.

  • Prior business advising and/or ownership preferred.

Experience:

  • Current knowledge and experience in business development and operations, including financial analysis, marketing, sales, strategy, business planning, business management, and other small business development areas.

  • Three years of recent practical experience in business advising and/or business ownership.
