Job description

The Equipment Operator (Grade A) can execute any task on any piece of equipment in the field, ensuring a safe, high-quality installation. This is a hands-on position; the Equipment Operator (Grade A) will be expected to be operating in the field.
This position is for all solar projects in the United States. Must be willing to travel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Organization, flexibility, outstanding customer focus and effective communication are critical in performing duties which include, but are not limited to:
  • Loading and unloading equipment from vehicles used to transport it.
  • Inspecting equipment before and after use to ensure it is in good working order.
  • Operate or control heavy equipment to complete tasks at the construction site.
  • Monitor equipment performance and adjust settings as required to perform tasks correctly.
  • Tracking scheduled maintenance of equipment and notifying your supervisor if equipment maintenance is past due or required.
  • Participate in the daily toolbox talks.
  • Follow detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and practices.
  • Adhere to all company and industry standards and regulations.
  • Keep equipment clean at all times.
  • Maneuver motorized heavy equipment to ensure the accurate removal and placement of materials.
  • Loading and offloading rocks, debris, and other materials from heavy equipment.
  • Observe stipulated safety codes at all times.
  • Communicate with coworkers to elucidate project specifications.
  • Ability to work extended hours, as required.
  • Advise the foreman and/or superintendent of requisite upgrades, repairs, and replacements.
  • Develop and maintain a positive company image, both internally with fellow employees and with customers.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of all company-issued tools and equipment.
  • Provide feedback to higher-level managers on employee and teamwork performance and any behavioral and attendance issues.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the work of and provide assistance to Equipment Operator in-training and Equipment Operator workers.
  • Aid coworkers to ensure that the site is clean and organized at the end of each shift.
  • Provide suggestions to refine workflow and boost efficiency.
  • Assist in the training of other Equipment Operator workers.
  • Assist the Foreman and/or Superintendent with monitoring the workflow of heavy equipment involved in the same area.
  • Ability to deliver great customer service, to both internal and external stakeholders, using patience, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Properly fill out a Job Safety Analysis (JHA).
  • Mentor junior crew members.
  • Provide material request to Electrical Superintendent.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum 15 years of Equipment Operator experience preferred.
  • Solar Experience highly preferred.
  • Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • OSHA 10 certification
  • Capacity to provide and follow directions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operating 6 pieces of equipment in excavation, slopes, unloading and loading, GPS, trenching, operating in congested areas, fine grading, and other tasks.

  • Basic math skills and reading comprehension.
  • Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions to understand simple processes.
  • Basic computer skills, able to use Microsoft Office products and company email.
  • Valid CDL license.
  • Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Demonstrates competence necessary to perform the work.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
  • Work is performed both in an office and field environment.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, twist and lift 50 pounds.
  • Will be required to perform physical labor.
  • Requires travel/overnight stays.
