Job Description

The Senior Business Analyst is an expert in business analysis, functional design, and web solutions. They contribute to the evolution and modernization of LGI's Human Resources (HR) and Payroll management solutions by transforming business needs into digital solutions that create value for customers and end users.

Working closely with Product Managers, UI/UX Designers, Developers, Subject Matter Experts, and customers, the Senior Business Analyst participates in every stage of the Agile development lifecycle, from product discovery through feature delivery. They play a key role in modernizing the web components of LGI's HR and Payroll solutions by designing functional solutions that are consistent, high-performing, and user-centered.

As a subject matter expert, the Senior Business Analyst acts as a strategic partner to the Product teams. They facilitate discovery workshops, translate business needs into functional solutions, define expected application behaviors, and ensure that delivered functionality meets both business objectives and user needs.

They leverage artificial intelligence tools to improve the efficiency of business analysis, prototyping, functional design, user story creation, and documentation.

They also contribute to the evolution of business analysis practices by integrating AI tools as productivity enablers, proposing improvements to working methods, and promoting the adoption of best practices and emerging technologies.

Qualifications

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Analysis & Functional Design (Approximately 65%)

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, UI/UX Designers, Subject Matter Experts, and stakeholders to understand, analyze, and refine business requirements.
  • Participate in Product Discovery activities, hypothesis validation, and user needs exploration.
  • Contribute to the modernization of the HR and Payroll web solutions by participating in their functional design and ongoing evolution.
  • Define user journeys, functional behaviors, business rules, validations, exception handling, and interactions between solution components.
  • Partner with UI/UX Designers to design, refine, and validate wireframes and prototypes, ensuring alignment with business requirements and the desired user experience.
  • Translate business requirements and design mockups into clear, complete user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional documentation that are ready for development.
  • Break down features into deliverable increments and contribute to prioritization based on business value, user experience, risk, and implementation complexity.
  • Participate in the functional modernization of solutions by assessing the business, operational, and technical impacts of proposed changes.
  • Responsibly leverage artificial intelligence tools to accelerate analysis, research, prototyping, documentation, and user story development while exercising critical judgment and ensuring the quality of deliverables.

Communication & Collaboration (Approximately 25%)

  • Work closely with Product Managers to ensure the consistent evolution of the product backlog.
  • Participate in Agile planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Facilitate discovery, validation, and solution design workshops with customers and stakeholders.
  • Present proposed functional solutions to stakeholders and obtain alignment and buy-in.
  • Communicate business requirements and proposed solutions effectively to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support development teams by answering functional questions and validating deliverables prior to acceptance.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance teams to define test scenarios.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and up-to-date functional documentation throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Support implementation and Customer Success teams during the rollout of new functionality.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement (Approximately 10%)

  • Serve as a business analysis subject matter expert within the Product organization.
  • Mentor Business Analysts and contribute to the development of their skills.
  • Contribute to the evolution of business analysis methodologies, tools, templates, and best practices.
  • Promote the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence and help evolve best practices to improve the quality, speed, and consistency of business analysis activities.
  • Stay current on industry trends in business analysis, digital product design, user experience, and artificial intelligence, and recommend improvements to team practices.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of product delivery processes.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or another relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience in business analysis or functional analysis within a software development environment.
  • Significant experience designing and delivering web-based solutions.
  • Proven experience working in an Agile software development environment.
  • Experience in user needs discovery, writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional documentation.
  • Experience collaborating with Product Managers, UI/UX Designers, Developers, and Quality Assurance teams.
  • IIBA certification (CBAP, CCBA, or equivalent) is considered an asset.

Knowledge & Technical Skills

  • Excellent ability to translate business requirements into functional solutions.
  • Strong understanding of modern web application design principles.
  • Good understanding of modern web architectures, REST APIs, and application integration mechanisms.
  • Experience with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Axure, or Balsamiq.
  • Experience using Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience using, in a work related context, generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Claude, or equivalent) and strong prompt engineering skills.
  • Ability to effectively integrate AI into business analysis, prototyping, functional design, and documentation activities.
  • Understanding of the opportunities, limitations, and responsible use of artificial intelligence.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources, Payroll, Talent Management, or unionized work environments is considered an asset.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to integrate artificial intelligence into software products is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG) is considered an asset.
