DESCRIPTION:

The Controller will play a key leadership role while remaining actively involved in the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This position is responsible for completing month-end and quarter-end financial statements, partnering with senior leadership on job costing, cash flow management, and budget forecasting, and leading the finance and accounting personnel in the Houston offices. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance and Accounting, the Controller will oversee the organization's financial activities to maximize profitability, support strategic growth initiatives, and ensure sound fiscal management practices across the organization.

This role requires strong analytical and leadership capabilities, as well as the ability to provide strategic financial insight to executive leadership. The Controller will also focus on improving operational efficiency, strengthening internal processes, and supporting cross-functional collaboration.

As aControllerat Fisk Electric, reporting to theVP of Finance and Accounting,you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead and oversee all accounting and finance transactions for the Houston operations.

  • Prepare accurate and timely month-end and quarter-end financial statements.

  • Partner with senior leadership on job costing analysis, cash flow management, and budget projections.

  • Develop annual operating budgets and periodic forecast updates in collaboration with Houston business unit leaders.

  • Monitor and analyze actual financial performance against budgets and forecasts on a monthly basis.

  • Ensure strong fiscal controls, accounting procedures, and business processes are implemented and maintained across the organization.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase productivity and operational effectiveness across teams.

  • Oversee approval processes for Houston cash disbursements.

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams in Houston.

  • Serve as the primary accounting and operational resource for ERP system support and related inquiries.

  • Analyze financial data and provide strategic recommendations to executive leadership to support business decision-making.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company financial policies and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or MBA preferred.

  • Minimum of 8 years of finance and accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • 2+ years of construction accounting experience required, including percentage-of-completion accounting methods.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP.

  • Experience with Oracle JD Edwards ERP software preferred.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  • High attention to detail with the ability to maintain a strategic, big-picture perspective.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability with experience managing and developing accounting staff.
