Job description

Position Overview
The Rockford Rivets are seeking a qualified individual to join the team as a Merchandise Intern for the upcoming season. The Merchandise Intern supports the retail operations of the Rockford Rivets by assisting with inventory management, product merchandising, customer service, and game-day store operations. The intern will learn effective sales techniques that ensure fans receive high-quality shopping experiences that reflect the team's brand and values throughout the stadium and e-commerce platforms.The Merchandise intern will report directly to the Director of Marketing & Social Media.This summer internship program runs from mid-May to late August. All interns are required to be available for each home game (36), along with any additional events assigned throughout the season.
Please note: This internship is unpaid, and candidates must be actively enrolled in a college or university program that allows them to receive academic credit for the internship.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with the daily operations, including merchandising, stocking, and inventory.
  • Process sales transactions accurately using point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by greeting guests, answering questions, and providing product recommendations.
  • Maintain organized and visually appealing product displays according to merchandising standards.
  • Stock shelves, restock items as needed during events, and ensure all merchandise is properly tagged and priced.
  • Participate in receiving shipments, counting inventory, and updating inventory records.
  • Support retail needs during all home games, special events, and promotional activities on both game and non-game days.
  • Assist with crowd flow, line management, and maintaining a clean and safe retail environment.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong customer-service mindset; organized, motivated, detail-oriented, and able to multitask.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Will be required to work office/stadium hours on non-game days. All other duties as assigned.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment; adaptable to feedback, changing priorities, and tight deadlines.
  • Previous retail or customer service experience is preferred, especially in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands:
  • Capability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds boxes.
  • Perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
  • Close vision and ability to differentiate colors.
