Job description

Renaissance Wines & Spirits is looking for a dependable and experienced Assistant Store Manager to support the day-to-day operation of our busy Harlem location.

This is a hands-on position. The Assistant Manager will work alongside the Store Manager and staff and should be capable of taking charge of store operations when the Manager is unavailable.


Pay: $22–$25/hour, commensurate with experience


Full-time position


Typical Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, 4:00 PM–12:00 AM (midnight)


Paid training provided


Because we operate with a small team, this position requires exceptional scheduling flexibility. Candidates must be willing and able to provide occasional short-notice coverage when needed, including evenings, weekends, holidays, longer shifts, and double shifts. Short-notice coverage may require reporting to the store within approximately two hours and being prepared to work at least a 4-hour shift or a full shift, depending on coverage needs.


Responsibilities

  • Open and close the store independently and serve as a keyholder
  • Act as the person in charge when the Store Manager is unavailable
  • Provide excellent customer service and handle customer concerns
  • Prepare tills and maintain accurate cash-handling procedures
  • Receive and verify deliveries
  • Stock merchandise and maintain an organized sales floor and stockroom
  • Assist with inventory management and accuracy
  • Place routine product orders and communicate with vendors
  • Assist with preparing and adjusting employee schedules
  • Help coordinate coverage when employees call out
  • Direct and support employees during assigned shifts
  • Ensure store procedures and alcohol-sale/ID requirements are followed
  • Assist with loss prevention and store security
  • Perform cashier and stocking duties alongside the team as needed

Qualifications

  • Previous retail, customer-service, or supervisory experience
  • Experience as a keyholder, shift supervisor, team lead, or assistant manager strongly preferred
  • Strong reliability and punctuality
  • Comfortable taking responsibility and making decisions when the Store Manager is unavailable
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills
  • Comfortable handling cash and using POS/computer systems
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Exceptional scheduling flexibility, including evenings, weekends, holidays, longer shifts, double shifts, and occasional short-notice coverage
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and organized in a busy environment
  • Prior wine and spirits experience is a plus
  • Must be looking for a long-term position
  • Must be legally eligible to work as a W-2 employee
  • Must be willing to undergo a background check in accordance with applicable law
