Job description

MAC'S Hardware | Detroit Lakes
Lead the team. Own the day. Make a difference.
At MAC'S Hardware, we're not just selling hardware-we're helping customers tackle projects, solve problems, and get things done. We're looking for an Assistant Store Manager who can bring energy, leadership, and a serious commitment to customer service to our Detroit Lakes location.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who likes to lead from the front, solve problems, develop people, and keep the store moving. When the Store Manager is away, you'll take the lead and make sure the team, customers, and operation are all on track.
What You'll Do
  • Lead the team and help create a positive, high-energy store culture.
  • Deliver exceptional, proactive customer service and make sure the team does the same.
  • Help drive sales, profitability, and other store goals.
  • Keep the sales floor fresh, organized, stocked, and merchandised to company standards.
  • Oversee receiving, deliveries, inventory, safety, and day-to-day store operations.
  • Support and develop associates through coaching, training, and consistent feedback.
  • Help recruit, select, onboard, and train new team members.
  • Build relationships with both retail and commercial customers and help grow the business.
  • Know your market-our customers, competitors, seasonal opportunities, and what makes the Detroit Lakes community unique.
  • Jump in and solve problems when they happen. We're looking for a leader who gets things done.
  • Take charge of the store in the Store Manager's absence and ensure company standards and expectations are being met.
  • Become a go-to expert across the store, including customer service, product knowledge, receiving, forklifts, DOT, service desk, and more.
  • Master key services such as key cutting, paint mixing, lock keying, flooring cuts, and lumber banding.
  • Complete required product knowledge and safety certifications.
You'll Be a Great Fit If You...
  • Are a natural leader who knows how to motivate and bring out the best in a team.
  • Have strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, hands-on retail environment.
  • Are confident making decisions and solving problems without needing to be told what to do.
  • Are organized, detail-oriented, and able to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Understand retail sales, merchandising, operations, and the importance of controlling shrink.
  • Can read and understand sales and operational data and use it to make smart decisions.
  • Have hardware, building materials, lumber, or retail experience (a big plus!)
  • Are comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Can safely lift up to 50 lbs. and handle the physical demands of a hardware store, including ladders, bending, kneeling, reaching, and stocking overhead.
Why MAC'S Hardware?
You'll be joining a team that believes great stores are built by great people. We offer:
  • Employee Discount
  • 401(k) with Employer Match
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Full-Time Benefits: Medical, Vision, Dental, LTD/AD&D, STD, Life Insurance, Dependent Life Insurance & Will Prep Services

Ready to lead? If you're looking for a role where you can make an impact, build a team, and be part of a neighborhood hardware store with personality, we'd love to meet you.
