Job description

Position: Dairy/Frozen Manager 

Reports to: The Store Director 

Full Time: $20.00 to $26.00 per hour based on experience. 

MUST be able to work opening, closing and weekends.

Summary:

Oversees the Dairy and Frozen Department operations and directs and supervises all functions and activities of dairy/frozen personnel to achieve the sales and profit goals established for the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs duties in a safe and efficient manner as well as enforcing safety and sanitation standards.
  • Greets all customers and provides them with quality customer service.
  • Assigns, and supervises direct reports to meet merchandising and production plans, while maintaining an elevated level of staff relations.
  • Ensures that all department direct reports are trained in the store’s methods of performing department activities.
  • Performs employee relations activities related to direct report accountability (hiring, scheduling, performance reviews, disciplinary actions etc.,)
  • Responsible for managing the schedules for all direct reports by ensuring adequate coverage daily as well as vacations and call out coverage.
  • Responsible for following and enforcing proper department dress code policy.
  • Responsible for meeting weekly payroll budget.
  • Responsible for meeting gross margin and target goals and monthly sales projection.
  • Responsible for managing the workload allocation for all direct reports.
  • Back up for Grocery Manager when needed. 
  • Interfaces with vendor sales representatives and submits recommendations to the Store Manager.
  • Follow approved dairy/frozen Department plans for effective space management based on product movement, consumer demand, and profitability.
  • Monitors the receiving and unloading of dairy and frozen merchandise to:
    • Ensure that the product received accurately reflects the items and counts listed on vendors invoices.
    • Ensure accurate billing and pricing.
    • Ensure quality, count, and condition of products.
    • Enforce receiving procedures according to store policy.
  • Ensures that product rotation procedures are rigidly observed, and that merchandise is of optimal freshness and quality.
  • Ensures that all signs and prices are maintained accurately and are correctly positioned over each respective product.
  • Ensures that all product and merchandise are rotated in accordance with store policies and product code dates, always using the oldest products first (first-in, first-out).
  • Plans and builds the department displays for maximum sales and turnover.
  • Responsible for quarterly inventories and meeting margin.
  • Orders and maintains inventory control and supplies.
  • Takes care of damaged and spoiled products according to department procedures and takes positive action to control the level of these goods.
  • Monitors and maintains shrink logs daily and reacts to excessive shrink.
  • Verifies front-end Point of Sale (POS) accuracy and integrity.
  • Monitors and enforces a regular and effective housekeeping and sanitation program, which meets the standards established by the department and all applicable health regulations.
  • Ensures that the dairy/frozen clerks respond promptly to emergencies or potential safety hazards such as spills, broken glass, or containers.
  • Participates in training activities to increase personal skill levels, to improve overall department processes and customer service.
  • Meets the physical requirements to perform the job functions listed above.
    Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

 

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Should have at least three years of experience in the supermarket industry.
