Overview

Oversee and direct the company’s Space Management strategy, processes and team. Build and maintain collaborative relationships within the business to maximize efficiency and profit through optimized merchandising and assortment. Leverage the expertise of the Space Management team in support of retail location compliance with current planograms. Performs other related work.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and incorporate priorities of Operational Leadership into the space management strategy.
  • Communicate with Executive Team, District Leadership and Store Management to align and advance the merchandising goals of the Company.
  • Recruit, develop and direct a Space Management team that is agile and capable of implementing the space management strategy across the company.
  • Maintain an active partnership with Procurement team to ensure timely and efficient assortment adjustments.
  • Plan and execute merchandising plan for new store development, remodels and resets.
  • Determine and design the physical fixture/shelving needs of stores. Place orders with vendor suppliers able to provide cost-effective solutions.
  • Actively partner with Store Management to communicate, train and support the expectation of up to date merchandising and planograms within stores.
  • Assess and analyze merchandising plan performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Seek out ways to minimize potential for product shrinkage within the space management strategy.
  • Stay informed on industry standards and technology. Incorporate advancements in the most fiscally advantageous way for the Company.
  • Partner with outside parties and vendors on projects and initiatives.
  • Set and maintain expectations for Space Management staff; ensure that performance meets or exceeds expectations.
  • Develop and implement training for various teams across the Company which improve the effectiveness of the Space Management program.
  • Perform all job duties and responsibilities with enthusiasm, honesty and integrity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Merchandising or related field; OR equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

Experience:

  • At least five (5) years demonstrable knowledge of retail merchandising with emphasis on maximizing efficiency and profit.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience leading diverse teams and effectively influencing others in a retail environment.
  • Strong team leadership, relationship building and cross-functional management experience.
  • Strong analytical ability to gather and interpret information for the development of recommendations and solutions.
  • Successful team leadership adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrating working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Strong aptitude for advanced technology and software.

Ability to:

  • Develop and direct an effective team of professionals dedicated to advancing the Company’s interests as they relate to space management and merchandising.
  • Communicate effectively in a variety of settings with members of the Company at all levels.
  • Analyze information to identify opportunities for improvements and optimizations. Prepare and deliver thorough recommendations.
  • Continuously learn and improve skills for increased effectiveness in position.
  • Be available to respond to calls on urgent matters after business hours, on weekends and holidays.
  • Travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Perform all tasks with integrity and professionalism.

Additional Requirements:

  • Acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles driving record.

Preferred Education, Experience and/or Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • Experience and/or certification in current space management tools/software.
  • Seven (7) or more years’ experience in retail grocery leadership.
  • Background in project development and management.
  • Thorough knowledge of grocery industry and retail supply chain.
