Job description

Overview
Garmin International seeks Lead Storage Administrator (Data Protection) (Olathe, KS; Multiple positions):
Essential Functions
  • Leads administration of technology by contributing expertise in researching new technologies and proposing cost effective solutions.
  • Facilitates team discussions and plans and contributes innovative suggestions within the area of discipline.
  • Provides technical mentoring, guidance and training for less experienced Storage Administrators (levels 1-3)
  • Designs and develops basic integrated solutions to meet business requirements or enhance the performance of Garmin's Storage Area Network and Network Attached Storage environments.
  • Performs and evaluates cost analyses and vendor comparisons from small-large-scale projects to ensure cost-effective, efficient operations. Measures feasibility of various approaches and makes recommendations
  • Provides 24x7 on-call support
  • Continuously develop technical subject matter expertise on established and emerging storage technologies as they relate to CIFS, NFS, SSD Storage, Storage Snapshots, Site Replication and Data Mining.
  • Automated storage device management, configuration, and provisioning with Ansible NetApp cluster mode
  • Communicates effectively regarding system operations and environment changes
  • Adhere to SOX, PCI, and other regulatory requirements as dictated
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Garmin's Change Control process and upholds the importance of compliance.
  • Understands and avoids capacity, redundancy, and health constraints of storage systems
  • Ensures that all security requirements are met or exceeded
  • Provides significant contributions to defining team roadmap and priorities
  • Develops reliable solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
  • Demonstrates broad understanding of Garmin's business model, including Engineering, Operations, Finance, Sales, and Marketing
  • Researches new technologies and proposes cost effective solutions
  • Leads major incident troubleshooting involving multiple disciplines
  • Provides innovation within the area of expertise
  • Facilitates team discussions and meetings
  • Recognized as an expert in the assigned discipline at Garmin and applies extensive technical expertise and analysis to initiatives
  • Contributes input to broader technology solutions outside of the discipline
  • Coordinates department level non-project changes

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics or Electrical Engineering, Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems or a related field
Demonstrated experience in the following:
  • Designing and implementing basic scripting and coding to automate technical needs such as backup, recovery and configuration.
  • Solving moderately complex technical problems
  • Successfully recommending and implementing/installing industry regulated standards and technology solutions related to data protection and storage
  • Ability to efficiently explain and document the findings and best practices for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Developing business flow and data flow diagrams
  • Dell EMC storage, NetApp storage and SAN
  • Data protection products: NetWorker, Data Domain, Avamar, ECS or similar
  • High availability, cluster systems, and disaster recovery
  • Documenting different RTO and RPO requirements
  • Complex virtualized environments
  • Lifecycle management of data protection technologies

In lieu of a Bachelor's plus nine years of experience, a Master's plus seven years of experience in the requirements noted above is acceptable.
